15. Too many vowels
When Fayettevile, AR got its new airport, they slapped a "regional" name on it, too.

Now, you never know what to look for on the arrival board. Sometimes its "NW Arkansas". Other times "Fayetteville", still others "Bentonville". The airport itself is actually in the unincorporated community of Highfill, in the middle of nowhere.

Another interesting fact: the terminal at Manchester airport is in a different city and county than most of the runway.

18. Misc Airport Notes
Best public transit: Washington National

Good public transit: Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago

Horribly inconvenient public transit: Columbus, Indianapolis

Obscenely expensive public transit: Denver

Worst traffic: Boston Logan. It's on a peninsula, surrounded by water, high density urban war zones, and industrial chaos. The airport layout itself was designed by someone on acid.

Easiest traffic: New Orleans International. For a chronically dysfunctional city, they got the airport right. It's a quick shot in and out, and as long as you know how to hop on to the highway, it's a pretty clear shot.

Cool stuff: The psychedelic tunnel in Detroit; the boat hanging from the ceiling in Providence; the display of campaign buttons in Manchester

Worst experience: Being stuck at Newark for about 7 hours in 1992. I was flying home from Chicago after Paul Tsongas recalled all of his field staff when he decided to end his campaign. I was already depressed, got hassled by a belligerent security screener at O'Hare over the buttons in my coat pocket, missed my original flight, got re-routed to Newark, and stuck in an ice storm. When I finally got to Boston, I learned that my luggage had decided to visit Cleveland, possibly to take in a Cavs game.

30. Impossible for me to list them
There were so many. I remember being five years old and riding an airplane to somewhere. Have no idea where I was coming from or where I was going. I just remember the guy next to me in my seat reading a playboy. I remember smoking on the planes when I turned 16. Back in those days you could buy smokes at 16.

(that said, yes, it's good that there is no smoking on planes anymore)

My trip to Amsterdam will put me at 21K miles - well over the limit for a free ticket, and I need a couple more round trips for a free one on Southwest. :woohoo:

42. LGW, LHR, CLT, GSO, EWR, ORD, YYZ, DUS.
That's your lot I'm afraid. Mainly flying between NC and UK, with one flight in my life (my first) between LHR and DUS.

My preferred route as of late is GSO->EWR->LGW - but Continental are probably going to discontinue with EWR->LGW route when they have access to LHR. It's a shame, because although LGW is a smaller airport it's closer to my family's home than LHR and easier to get in and out of from there. My favourite route was CLT->LGW in BA days - US Airways just isn't as good as BA IMO.

Mark.
