I had no idea that the studios fucked up "I am Legend" as badly as they did!

I saw the movie on HBO last night. I'd give it an "ehhhh". A lot of pretty boring stuff, then the zombies which obviously are just computer generated cartoons. At the end, the Zombies breach Will Smith's Washington Square townhouse (wtf? Washington Square townhouse that he had before the Zombie infection? And I'm supposed to have a willful suspension of disbelief???) and Smith blows himself and some zombies up and the Hispanic (Brazilian?) lady and her son escape.

Then I read on Wiki today that in the original ending the Zombies show the Will Smith character that they are still partly human and have come to rescue one of their ladies. Smith realizes that all his experimentation on the zombies leading to numerous zombie deaths actually was murder, and that HE IS THE LEGENDARY MONSTER of New York who has kidnapped and killed the actually human zombies !!!

What a terrific ending! They fucked this movie up entirely by reshooting the ending for sappy crowd pleasing effect. No wonder it made no fucking sense!!!

1. get the special edition DVD with the REAL ending

They put the original ending in the Special edition DVD. WAY better than the theatrical ending. You can't spend the entire movie showing that there's more to the zombies than meets the eye and then end it with the zombies as nothing more than an animal mob.

my husband said that it was nothing like the story.... but a busload of pre-teens loved it on a recent field trip - :shrug:



I knew it had "too happy" an ending....
