Poll question: Turtlenecks or mock turtlenecks?
I'm thinking about purchasing a few of these for a more casual look this winter. I would wear these with a sportcoat, but am torn between "turtlenecks" or "mock turtlenecks."

Turtleneck

Mock turtleneck

Vital statistics: I'm a middle-aged guy who's currently stuck on the lower rung of an upwardly-mobile ladder...

3. Thanks! Your input is important.
I don't want to buy several and discover I'm not as hip-looking as I would have been if I had purchased the other...:hi:

4. Mock turtles just make you look like a slacker.
Turtlenecks have that groovy late 60s businessman-trying-to-be-hip vibe.

6. Thanks! I really didn't want to look like a slacker...
I'm planning a career change in the near future. Not that I would wear turtlenecks in the new career, but doing so just as I make the change will give me the confidence of taking on new challenges and responsibilities.

This is what I'm looking for as I psych-up for the big change...:hi:

7. I see your point...
I had a friend who opted for this look. He was from England and I always surmised this was a trend there.

Thanks :)

I have one too! She's about 5-7 years old, but still acts like a kitten! Is this a trait of tortoiseshells?

13. Other.
Since it's plural, you may as well get one of each and wear them for a while before deciding on future purchases.

16. I thought about that, but there's this sale going on...
$15 each, but if I buy 3 I can get them for $12.50 each for a saving of $7.50. Hmmm, maybe I'll buy one of one and two of the other...:ponder:

18. Exactly what career change are you contemplating? Or doing?
Your complete response should read something like 'I was a __________, but now I'm gonna be a _________'
                                                                                                    former career                                           new career

20. Whoa! That rocks!
Library sciences or something else?

I worked in the development department at a community college for a couple of years before returning to secondary teaching. It was a remarkably hectic job, but just about the most interesting thing I've ever done--just because you get to peek inside the workings of everyone else's department.

Have fun with it. And don't forget to wear tweed coats when you teach your classes. It'll itch like hell, but it really completes the college experience for the kids.

21. Library Science...
I actually have a DMA and an MM in addition to a MLS, but couldn't land that "perfect career starter," so I languished in libraries for many years. But the paradigm has shifted: Librarianship is dead. Take it from me! Now I want to do something that uses my mind and talent.

It may be too late, but I've had it with "librarianship."

22. Turtleneck.
The mock turtlenecks tend to stretch and get baggy looking. Also, if you are old like me and have a baggy, crepey neck, the mock turtleneck makes you look more like an actual turtle. The regular turtleneck also keeps your neck warm (and covers the crepey parts). I wear them all the time.

"I'm being swallowed by my sweater" look. I like mocks.
