1. Did you call the police yet?
Make sure you don't touch or move anything until they get there, so any fingerprint evidence won't be compromised.

I'm so sorry. And right before Christmas, too! How horrible.

We're worried about you, and thinking of you.

27. I am so sorry, mb. It is such a horrible violation. It happened to me almost
30 years ago, in an apartment. I couldn't stay there--much as I loved the apartment and the location--after the break-in.

I am so sorry about the jewelry. I lost most of mine-- a lot of estate pieces, unique--when our house burned down a year ago. Jewelry I'd collected for many years.

I am so sorry.

43. Police don't really do much for house burglars, not like on TV.
The guy will likely continue till he injures or kills someone or someone shoots him.

You were fortunate you were not home.

5. OMG, I'm so sorry! What a horrible violation.
 I'm glad you and little MB are safe, though. That's the main thing.

Our next door neighbor's house got vandalized over the Thanksgiving Day weekend. This is not normally a hotbed of crime, but like you, there's been a rash of burglaries lately.

I think it's a sign of the times, quite frankly. :(

It really sucks you're having to deal with this during the holiday season. I'm sorry and I'm sending vibes for Safety, Comfort and Protection.

Did you ever get a German Shepherd? It might help.

Studies show robbers are more afraid of dogs than alarm systems!

23. I realized my lack of sensitivity to your plight
and erased my comment.

In my musings I overlooked your feelings and your loss. I apologize for that, and hope somehow you can get them back. If not, sorry for your loss, heirlooms can hold alot of sentimental value, and that is not a good feeling to lose them.

26. Horrible, horrible, horrible
It's a terrible thing -- I've experienced it. The feeling of violation is the worst of it; knowing that someone was in your space, touching your things. I'm so sorry about your diamonds, also. I hope they weren't family heirlooms of sentimental value. That would make it even worse.

Stay safe.

I hate thieves so much. Stealing money is one thing -- even electronics. But when they take jewelry, silver, etc. -- things that they have to know are heirlooms or have sentimental value -- well, then they are just scum. Truly scum.

Sorry about your antique diamonds. I would be upset too if thieves stole my heirlooms. They are more precious to me for the sentimental value than any thing else.

52. Girlfriend.....
I am SOOOOOOOO sorry to hear this. My poor girl.

Such a mix of emotions to contend with - yours, and little MBs. :(

I've seen other people mention this, but it is soooooo true - GET. A. DOG.

My condo was broken into back in 1993.....but they never got any further than opening the door, because my 190-pound English Mastiff was waiting for them on the other side. She wasn't a barker, so they had no idea she was even there. Bwhahahahahahaha.

If you end up going with a German Shepherd (as some have suggested), may I just add that you get a PUPPY. German Sheps are my favorite breed, hands down.....but they are also VERY smart and are easily conditioned. I wouldn't want you to get one that wasn't trained properly, since you have a little MB at home. I grew up with German Shepherds, and have gotten the chance to "meet" several of them during the course of my career. They are fiercely loyal, and truly a force to be reckoned with. Get a Shepherd, and no one is going to mess with you. Would you mess with this?

Think about it, okay? If you can do it, do it. You won't be sorry. And you'll sleep better.

Thinking about you, sista. :loveya:

Little MB is doing better this morning. She refused to come back in after the initial discovery of the break in. She hid in the car with the doors locked, and her daddy said as they drove away, she turned back and said the house looked like a mean face....remember, I have a Dutch colonial that looks like the Amityville Horror house - so that was really weird.

One thing you can do is to be proactive in looking for the stolen jewelry. Since you know it well, watch the local Craigs List and Ebay. Use the Nearest option in searches to narrow the huge jewelry listings. Also, visit the local pawn shops and antique stores that offer jewelry for sale. Especially with antique jewelry, the antique stores and estate jewelry shops buy a lot of that, and aren't always as meticulous as they might be.

If you locate one or more pieces of your jewelry, don't confront the seller yourself. Notify the police and let them do it. Tell them you found the stuff and identified it and give them all the details. They'd like to solve the crime, but probably won't put a lot of effort into it unless they have a solid lead.

I hope you recover your items. Most often, these are stolen by drug addicts, who will try to get rid of them quickly.

68. There is a small shop right on the corner that I will look in to.
I would think that they wouldn't unload it so close by, but it is a start and would make me feel better.

The officers said that the investigators cruise the shops, so perhaps, OH PLEASE, they will find something.

I appreciate the advice and will take it to heart.

Thank you.

67. Oh no!
I'm glad you and little MB are safe, I think getting a big dog (since you are a dog lover anyway) is a good idea, and I mourn the loss of your heirlooms. I agree with the poster who said to monitor Craig's List and eBay. I hope they turn up.

I'm serious.

I am really sorry that happened to you -- I know from experience how scary that is. I hope your daughter's okay.

77. I hear ya sweetie, but somehow
deep inside I can't think that it was him.

Little MB is doing better today, and she is with her daddy this weekend. When she comes back, there will be a new door and I cleaned up her room, all her clothes have been washed - they fucking touched her panties.

Thank you :pals:

76. That's just the most awful feeling.
I had that happen a couple of years back. It's not even what they took, it's the fact that some strange person invaded your space and touched your things.

I'm so sorry this happened to you.

84. No, and I refuse to believe that he would do something like that
He is not hard up for money so it would only be a spiteful act, and I just don't think that.

It really freakin sucks :(

90. Sorry, but thinking like a cop I guess.
TV cop more than a real one. I'm sorry they took your valuable things and riffled through your stuff. Let hope they get caught. If the cops say they've had other incidents like this they must be casing out people's homes.
