I wish I could learn to like coffee.
Edited on Thu Dec-18-08 09:15 PM by mycritters2
My church is working with a local coffee roasting company to facilitate direct trade with coffee growers in Guatemala. They're in an area where a parishioner, an optometrist, goes every year with other eye doctors to give eye care to the poor. We're working on getting their coffee shipped here to sell at better prices than they're getting now.

So, we had this meeting with the coffee roasting people today, in their shop. It smelled so good! They did a little tasting of their different coffees--Kenyan, Sumatran, Colombian, a blend. Everyone was oohin' and aahin'. Everyone but me. I think it tastes awful! I could barely swallow it!!

How can something that smells so good taste so bad? And how can I be so out of touch with my culture?
Is there some secret to learning to drink this stuff?!

I'm gonna make some tea. :hi:

3. Coffee bleach. The true best thing is half and half. Some folks like sugar in it
Ipersonally do not.

4. You have that in common with LostinVA
She loves the smell, hates the taste.

I LOVE coffee, and I'm a total snob about it. If I went to your church, I'd buy that coffee.

7. They're not selling Guatemalan coffee yet. We're working to make that happen.
During the meeting, where we were talking about setting up the Guatemalan project, they let us taste the coffees they now roast and sell--which come from Kenya, Colombia, and Sumatra. Guess I wasn't clear. Sorry!

14. I don't understand how Guatamalan coffee growers have
Kenyan coffee for sale. Or why.

15. The people we were meeting with today are the roasters, not the growers
They roast and sell coffee here (I'm not in Guatemala). They buy directly from several places and sell the coffee here. We're working on a project to get Guatemalan coffee here to add to what they already sell. The sellers are American. They SELL Kenyan, Colombian, and Sumatran coffee. And soon, we hope, Guatemalan.

Is that clearer?

6. I'm the same way.
I love the smell, but I can only drink the stuff when I've added so much cream and sugar that it's no longer recognizable as coffee--and even THEN, only rarely.
