I take them out of the dryer, and discover that one is missing. Where is that other darn sock?

used to have a darning egg. my mother taught me how and I helped her.

9. I remember taking shoes to the shoemaker for repairs

– back when shoes were made of leather and could be repaired. And when I was a teenager, I used to have taps put on my loafers, to keep heels from wearing down, of course.
