An Update On My Cat...
Last night a few of you chimed in to a thread where I was somewhat panicked because my cat was sick. Several people recommended that I take him to the nearest emergency clinic. I thought the same, but knew that the nearest emergency hospital had recently moved. I called our regular vet and sure enough, on their voice mail was the new number.

I headed out at about 8:00 last night. We arrived at the hospital at about 8:30 and signed in. We waited until 12:45am this morning to see the vet, but it was worth it. Turns out Hiroshi, (the cat in question), had a blocked urethra, (as a few of you pointed out after reading about his symptoms). They kept him through the weekend to unblock and drain him while feeding him through tubes.

I am supposed to pick him up at 7am tomorrow morning, so it's an early night for me. Once I have him, he is to return to our regular vet where they will keep an eye on him for the next few days, and possibly do surgery to "widen the hole" if needed. But he'll be fine...

I called the emergency clinic a few hours ago and they told me he had just woken up and was watching them from his cage. They told me he will be okay in a few days, and that he will likely be around to annoy me for a several more years.

Thanks to everyone for their support. Hiroshi and I both appreciated it.

2. Poor Hiroshi. Glad he's going to be OK.
Years ago I had a cat with the same problem, and they did that surgery on him. It's kind of a peckerectomy, actually. He lived to be 21 with no further problems.

Get well soon, Hiroshi!

4. Oh, good. I'm so glad you got him taken care of.
That must have been very uncomfortable for him, so he'll probably feel much better now.

9. Great news,JW!
I'm so glad Hiroshi will be OK.
:)

Poor guy!

I went through this trauma with my Darwin,
about three years ago. By the time he got to
the ER,( after meowing all morning, he finally let me
know where the problem was) his bladder was
the size of his head-my story was just like yours.

A speedy recovery for Hiroshi and I highly recommend
the urinary tract health formula for his food. Ask his vet what
he recommends.

Feline Urological Syndrome. Keep a close watch after Hiroshi comes home-- it can recur quickly.

18. I am so happy that you caught it quickly and that Hiroshi is okay....
Our Ninja had a blockage, I'm glad they were able to get him unblocked without surgery. If they have to do surgery it may be pricey, but it will prevent him from getting blocked again.

They may talk to you about special food for him -- Ninja is having to eat Prescription Diet c/d. For about two months after his main blockage he was on s/d and had to have rechecks every week to make sure there were no more crystals in his urine. It may be a bit pricey, but he hasn't had any problems since then so it's worth it to us.

It's so hard when our furkids are sick.... I remember how hard it was to see him when we had to transport him from the emergency clinic back to our regular vet -- he had a catheter and an IV and it was so hard to see him in the carrier and not be able to take him out and love on him -- I loved on him while he was in the carrier but I just wanted to cuddle him in my lap.

I feed mine Waltham Urinary So cat food for cats with urinary problems. It's really working well for him.
