32. Yep, neither cream/milk nor tomatoes.
Just clear broth.

But personally, I prefer the New England way, such as made at Anthony's in Middletown. RI. That, plus some clam cakes or stuffies to go with it.

35. I will have to try it...

Rhode Island clam chowder has clear broth. Though less popular than the other two, clear chowders are still served, especially at long-established New England restaurants and hotels, such as those on Block Island, and on the south coast of the state, where tourists favor white chowders while natives prefer the clear.

Manhattan style looks like sliced bulls nuts in salsa.

And it's chowdah.

39. No need to go to Canada the recipe is at the link and it's easy. It's like a gumbo or bouillabaisse

with potato for thickening hence it's a chowder.
It would be great with black cod which is not
endangered. Black cod is also called Sable Fish
or Butterfish. Beautiful large flakes high in
Omega 3 fatty acids. Sable fish also pan fries
nicely.

42. Its the POT that makes it CHOWDER!
not potatoes for thickening!

'The most accepted etymology for the word chowder comes from the pot in which it is cooked. The French word chaudron translated means "a pot," developed from chaud, "hot" (also related to the Latin calderia and English cauldron). The word "chowder" is a New England word that came from Newfoundland, where Breton fishermen — who would throw portions of the day's catch and other available foods into a large pot — introduced the word, and perhaps the fish soup itself (compare bouillabaisse). Another possible origin for the word chowder is derived from the Old English "jowter", which means fishmonger (one who peddles fish).'

And it's pretty old NY. New England is white like snow. Manhattan is red like blood, as in the crime in NY.

I proudly say Manhattan!
