OMG!!!! I just watched Mamma Mia the Movie and I LOVED IT
All I know is this - those people looked like they had one fricking amazing time filming that movie. Talented actors, many of them heaped with some of the top awards & nominations out there - dancing in the Greek sun and singing frilly ABBA songs. And seriously, how can you call it work when your job requires you to kiss Pierce Brosnan??!! Hell, I'd be happy with Colin Firth or Stellan Skarsgård.

It was not the best made movie of 2008 and let's face it - some of those actors could use a few singing lessons. But they looked like they were having so much fun that it made it that much more fun watching the movie.

:woohoo:

4. my friends tell me that the stage version is better, but you can't do better
than Streep, Baransky and Walters for sheer campy romantic fun, IMHO. And the scenery! To die for!

Hell, I want to watch it right now!

9. I wouldn't say "better", but different

I saw stage productions in Las Vegas and Broadway. I liked the LV one better.

The movie made good use of Greek island landscapes and seascapes, and Greek townspeople.

The stage productions had better choreography and musical talent.

In the stage productions I saw, the "cougar" character was a little more MILFy, and there were some minor script and score differences. The overture and dream sequence sort of get lost in the movie.

Hard to separate the experiences for me though. I took my stepdaughter to the Broadway show, so we'd both quit saying "step".

7 brides for 7 brothers, which put me off musicals entirely for many years.

6. I loved the movie.
It was one of those movies that you walk out smiling and humming. I went with my sisters and mother, great time had by all.

Pierce Brosnan was hot but could not carry a tune.

7. I loved it. I hated it. I laughed. I cringed. I bought the double DVD.

That's a gift for Mrs GoS - We're taking it to California and watching it on Christmas day - The Sing-a-long-a-Mamma Mia!

I'll even try to emulate Brosnan - won't be easy unless we have a really huge Christmas dinner. (According to the New Yorker film critic when Brosnan was singing, "he looks like a man in the grip of severe intestinal distress, whose problem is being resolved as we watch.")

And I really wanted Amanda Seyfried to try decaff. If she had been any perkier, I would have barfed.

Christine Baranski, Julie Walters and Meryl Streep - super.

I only had a better time at "Tropic Thunder."

11. I first saw it in the theatre and it was a hoot to hear others laugh at the same things
the innuendos like the power drill, the scene on the beach with the hot sexy young men was so sexual with the older women/younger guy scenario - just really played on the sexuality issue throughout the movie - I saw the play many years ago but don't remember coming away with as much joy and understanding - maybe too far from the stage to get into it. This movie I saw twice in the theatre and bought the dvd when it cam out. The first viewing with the people in the theatre was the funniest because it was a lot of surprises. Just loved it - it was a real celebration of women and their sexuality and sexiness no matter what their age or looks.

17. So we're going to start rating movies based on the fun the actors have?
It's time the Academy start handing out Oscars to porn stars then.

18. I never said this was a well acted movie - I said I could see the actors had fun having the movie
and it rubbed off on you while you watched it.

It was just a fun movie to watch. If I wanted to watch serious acting I could have easily chosen some serious minded movie on cable but my brain wanted candy and that's Mamma Mia - fluffy sweet fun delicious candy

20. Pursuant to the terms of the October 2008 LynneSin-PeterU Wye River Peace Accord...

...I have ceased from making comments of mockery about anything pertaining to ABBA, Colin Firth or Carrie Bradshaw. It's the best I can do for humanity.

And to avoid the wrath of LynneSin's Tool List. Because if I'm on LynneSin's Tool List, good luck trying to apply for credit to buy a car or house. It's nearly impossible. Where else do you think all this nation's major banks and credit institutions are headquartered? And let's not even get into the power of the Vice Presidency.
