Somebody here hipped me to a video online that spoke about how the Christ story is found in other / older religious traditions. Like with Ra from Egypt...and several others.

I'm looking for a link to it or the name of it....

3. You have to be careful with this stuff

believe me, no one loves a good myth debunking more than me, but I've gotten into discussions with a true scholar about the Christ/older mythology connections and while the connections are very real, they are not nearly as straitforward and linear as presented in the list floating around the internet, or as shown in the movie Religulous.


In short there is a lot of spin and myth making in most of the Jesus = Older myth/traditions "factoids".

As an aside, but somewhat relevant to your question, C.S. Lewis in his book, Mere Christianity, delves even further and explores similarities not only with the birth story, but with most of the main themes of of the Christian Bible and how they had been told and re-told many, many times before in prior cultures.

Regardless of one's stance on religion, it's a wonderful examination of what Lewis called 'Shared Myth'.
