I did alot of years of volunteer work with Vietnam vets. Somewhere along the way, I was sitting in a VFW with a whole bunch of them - and when I used the word "former", one guy corrected me reaaaallllly quick.

"We're not 'former' Marines, honey. Once a Marine, ALWAYS a Marine".
