Busted water pipe somewhere under the trailer.

We can hear the water running under the house somewhere when we're in the bathroom--it wasn't doing it earlier, but it is now. We have no idea where the main water shutoff is, so ThinkBlue is on the phone with my stepfather, who is (thank goodness for providence) actually in town right now at the grocery store. He's on his way over to take a look at it, but it's going to be full-dark soon, so I don't know if he'll be able to do more than just turn the water off for now.

This is so not what we needed right now. *sigh*

We are in the midst of filling the bathtub, plus every pot, pan, kettle, and bowl in the house with water, because we're probably going to be stuck at least overnight with no water.

Good vibes that it'll be something inexpensive and easy to fix, please?

4. It looks like this is the hot water pipe

The cold water is working everywhere in the house, but the hot water is not. I hope our water heater hasn't been damaged or anything. It's a gas heater, not electric--I'm not sure what happens when it gets empty and can't fill back up. I'll have my stepfather turn off the pilot light and the gas, just in case.

5. Good luck with this. We have had a somewhat similar thing happen in our trailer. Hubby

replaced the old water heater when it went nuts and of course had to replace some piping as well. About 3 times now the pressure on the pipes has been stronger than the epoxy and clamps he used to hold things together and whoosh! Came right into the kids bedroom. We got smart and moved the electronics up off the floor after the first time, but it's rotted out the floor under the heater itself. Had to bolster it by stacking cinder blocks under it.

Our older heater was also electric and didn't have a proper leak valve anymore, so the when the incoming water stopped, say due to power outages, the tank would empty. Then when the power was restored the elements flamed out in a big way. The new one holds the water in so we haven't worried about running to the fuse box to throw the switch when the power goes out. No idea how it would be with a gas one, though. :(

I hope you guys can get this taken care of quickly, because it sure does suck when this happens. :hug:

6. The shutoff is under the house. Get under the skirting and look for a handle on one of the pipes and

give it a turn, that should do it.

7. Update. Good news and bad news, but not catastrophic, thankfully.

Maxwell (my stepfather) finally got the water main turned off--apparently, the handle/knob thing was MISSING. Ugh. We bought this trailer 4 years ago and had never had a problem with something like this until now, so we didn't know. He got it turned off with a pair of locking plier thingies, though, and is going to fix that too.

As for the pipe itself, he said that it looks like it isn't a busted pipe--rather, it just looks like it came apart at the joint. Apparently, this is much easier (and less expensive) to fix. Also, tomorrow is going to be 50 degrees, so he'll be able to do it without freezing to death.

But yeah. For tonight, we have no water. Thank goodness we had the presence of mind to fill the tub and all of our empty receptacles, pots, pans, etc.
