1.) Hmm...favorite holiday gathering...every Christmas with my family is special. I like to see my dear sister's happiness. I always spend more than I can afford on presents for her. I can't help it. :shrug:

2.) Anonymous? Not that I can remember.

3.) Too many things to count. If I could change one, big, single thing? There are a couple. One? I'm not telling. Another? In college, I had an opportunity to get together with this girl Christy that I didn't even realize (we dated later on)...if I had gotten together with her sooner, who knows where it would've gone? As it was, the timing for our relationship was bad...a couple months sooner, and I think things would've turned out much better. That's important because it was a prelude to me entering into an absolute trainwreck of a relationship that negatively impacted my life for months.

4.) Secretly I wish I could make it as a writer. I am not-so-secretly afraid to try.

5.) Video games, without a doubt. I am a big time gaming nerd.

6.) My memories of childhood are VERY hazy. The best I can remember is the song 'Broken Wings' by Mister Mister, and the fact that it made me cry because it sounded very sad.

7.) Fall, then Winter, then Spring. i have little use for summer.

8.) Shower, but an occasional bath is nice.

10.) My stepfather's death could be considered tragic. He gradually wasted away from muscular dystrophy before suffering a seizure that left him in a permanent vegetative state. He 'lived' like this for three years before he was finally taken off life support in May of this year, leaving his 11-year-old daughter without a father, but really, she lost her father in 2005, when she was 8 years old. He was bitter about his failing health and slow death...he was often morbid and gloomy. I doubt he would've wanted to be kept alive for so long, but there was his daughter to consider. Yeah. Tragic.

Mine HAS to be the year I brought a severely mentally disabled child to my home for Xmas with my family. His parents had abandoned him for years. (Assholes!) He SO loved the male attention from my dad and older brothers that it made them all cry.

2) Have you ever given an anonymous gift? And, what made you decide where to give it?

Yes, I do every year. And I won't tell.

3) If you could change one thing about your life, what would that be?

If I could change anything, I would have come out as gay a lot sooner. Since then, I've finally felt "normal".

I have more step and half brothers and sisters, and His, Hers, and Ours siblings than I can count. Some have very much mattered to me ....

Just about all of that except Sports. I'm disabled and too worn out for that.

My grandfather. Convincing me that he was always going out the back door to piss was actually helping the garden. LOL!

Fall. It's very short here, but for the two weeks or so that it cools off but isn't raining yet it's really nice.

Christmas dinner with friends, all couples, where I was the only one without a partner - and the fact that for the first time in my life, I was completely comfortable being on my own.

Yes. The deciding factor always being a selfish one - I knew it would make me feel more joyous for the giving than the recipient could ever imagine.

That I'd recognized true love when it was offered, and truly appreciated the depth of feeling that accompanied each declaration thereof.

As much as I love movies and devour books, nothing soothes my soul more than music.

9) Have you ever served on a jury? I get summoned for jury duty every two years like clockwork. My 6th time is coming up soon. However, I'm always an alternate. The one time I actually got seated, the case settled at the last minute.

10) Have you ever lost a family member due to tragic circumstances? I lost my Mother to her third bout of breast cancer over a 30 year period. It was especially tragic because it turned out the radiologist who read her mammograms screwed up repeatedly. What ultimately killed her should have been discovered almost 3 years earlier.

Every year for New Year's we go to a friend's house in the middle of nowhere in Virginia (okay, it's the middle of nowhere for me, but I'm a city person :rofl:) It's been the same group of friends, with a few additions, since...well actually, since before I was born, and it's basically the only time the whole group is together. Friends mostly, these days family gatherings are usually the cause of more stress than relief. But I love to get together over good home made food and good wine and/or beer and just sit around and talk. So Thanksgiving usually fits that bill. Although the dinners my son and I make for HumanLight, though it's typically just us, are really wonderful, all local ingredients, we make it together and eat and talk.

The timing of my father's death was somewhat unexpected. He had heart trouble all his life but always seemed to pull through and he lived much longer than doctors thought he would when he had his first heart attack at 26 - he lived to 64 - so I guess we got a little complacent - at least I did - in thinking he would make it through the last serious problems he faced with his heart.

And I consider my Aunt's death from breast cancer tragically early.

OK my women's group @ church does a Christmas party for the young women transitioning out of foster care, who live in our YWCA (conveniently right next door to the church) We do a big Christmas Dinner, the Chinese Gift Exchange (we provide gifts for each girl, ourselves and any YWCA staff that may appear) and make a stocking for each resident with her name on it and packed with goodies and 'girl stuff'. Especially if you're an introvert. I would like to go to one of the family Christmas reunions. We used to go every year until I was 12 or so, and I've been once since then. I don't know any of those people, most of them not even their names, but they all look and talk just like me, and the fact that we're third cousins or something ridiculous like that and yet we're all instantly accepting of one another is amazing.

On a realistic note, I've been going to the same friend's family gatherings since we were in junior high 20 years ago -- I'm more of a family member in some ways than all of their spouses.

2) I've got a kid. Until she was 11, I never gave her a single present. Not one. I was always too poor, so Santa had to bring them all. If you're giving gifts because you want something in return, they're not really gifts, are they? There's also the various Toys for Tots, etc. programs that I've always done stuff for.

3) I don't like being fat. I'm not as fat as some people -- I'm still mobile and stuff -- but I'm not that happy with myself. Part of me says "Hey, you've given up drugs entirely and drink mostly, you've given up pornography and easy women and gambling. If you were any straighter, you'd be a Mormon. Food is the only vice you've got left." And it's a hell of a vice.

4) I think I may be in love with my dog. I tuck him in at night on the pillow next to mine, we cuddle all night long, leaving him behind complicates travel plans, and when I do travel I put a picture of him on the night stand.

5) Everything I do is entertaining. I like books, movies, and TV, but my job (I'm somehow, despite all sane odds and good judgement, a teacher) is the most entertaining thing I can possibly imagine. There's rarely a day in which I don't have to step outside because I'm laughing so hard.

6) I remember going to see Star Wars. After that, I remember my parents arguing and making a list to divvy up the stuff in the house -- a his/hers list with things in the columns like "couch" and "poodles."

7) At home I like the season that's not summer -- when you live in the Mojave, that combined season is eight or nine months long. When traveling, I like the spring. There seems to be a lot of animals out then.

9) I was going to go once about fifteen years ago, but I got high. They've never summoned me again. Other people I know who have been in town a lot less time have been called up multiple times.

10) I was killed a man in a tragic circumstance. He was a pedestrian, jaywalking, against the light, wearing all black at night. There were a bunch of witnesses who said it wasn't my fault, I wasn't on any alcohol or drugs, I was paying attention to the road, I was found not liable by a civil judge and not at fault by an investigating detective. And I still feel like shit. Tomorrow will be 11 years and 3 weeks. Every time my kid opens her presents, I wonder how his family must feel this time of year. Do they have a picture of him on the mantle, do they say a prayer for him, do they toast in his honor, do they cry, do they damn his killer? Would he have his own kids by now? Would they be opening their presents?
