At casa de flvegan, all the dogs, rescues included get a toy of some kind and a special Christmas dinner. Yes, I am indeed mad.

1. I make treats for your dogs, so stop eating them you greedy pig.

My kids each have their own stocking. They get new collars and some little toys, a packet of catnip and a packet of treats.

I'd make your kids new blankies but the shipping would be prohibitive. I guess I could see if Sis could ship 'em.

2. My dog (an 11 year old Belgian Sheepdog) gets Christmas

gifts - a plush toy and special homemade dog biscuits.

She also gets birthday gifts every year!

4. Of course!

I just moved and have a sliding glass door that my cat loves to look out. This year I'm giving her a bird feeder. Also, she'll have a couple Wheat Thins which are her favorite treat.

My mom and grandmother also have some toys wrapped up for her.

You're not mad-- they're part of the family!

Nasha and Ace's stockings were hung from the mantle with everyone else's.

8. I give StirFry gifts for all major occassions.

His birthday, Christmas, and sometimes just because. Right now, money is a bit tight owing to my dismal job situation and the current economic forecast. But I've still managed to make him a special batch of Christmas Crevette, I picked up a little catnip at the local grocery, and we'll be playing many kitty games and snuggling, which is what he really wants after all.

17. Oh, he's got a really fun, very developed sense of play.

I've got some dangly hoohahs on the end of an elastic tied to a stick. I clear a big space and put some boxes down and then taunt him with the hoohah, let him catch it a few times and then let him chase it all over the place, in and out of boxes.

He also loves to bat around little crumpled pieces of paper and tinfoil and I'll toss them around and hide them while he goes nuts and purrs like a Harley engine chasing them all over tarnation.

His absolute favourite is to crawl under a blanket or sheet on the bed while I tap at various places on the coverlet. - Then he tries to catch my fingers before I get away.

11. Toby gets to share the dog-friendly parts of our Christmas dinner

and also gets a wrapped package of treats and either a "quack" or a rawhide bone if I haven't had the time/money to make a new quack.

Note: "Quacks" are part of our household jargon. When Toby was a puppy, he had a stuffed toy with a squishy noise-ball inside that "quacked" loudly when bitten or chewed too hard. I made it myself from one of OktoberKid's old shirts and the noise-ball from a stuffed duck toy as a training device to help ensure that Toby used his teeth gently. He was allowed to play rough with his "normal" toys, but when playing with the quack (which smells like OktoberKid, obviously) he had to "mouth" the toy gently enough so as not to make it "quack." If it quacked, he got a stern "No!" If he played gently enough to keep it silent, he got cubes of colby cheese as a treat. After a few days of this, he started to understand that he needed to be gentle with things that smelled like OktoberKid--including OktoberKid, lol. Then after that noise association was firmly established, we trained him to be just as gentle with US by loudly QUACKing if he bit too hard during play, followed up with a "No!" He picked it up within a day, and has never accidentally played too hard with his teeth again.

However, the "quack" became his absolute most favorite toy, and when we'd have to be gone for a few hours and he was in his crate, he'd be quiet and fine so long as he had it. Eventually it wore out, but we try to replace it at least once a year, always using an old shirt that smells like the people he loves the most. We've also bought him synthetic "quacks" from pet stores that made a different quacking sound--he's allowed to chew those as hard as he pleases, and he can easily tell the difference between a pet-store quack and a REAL quack. :)

The cats get a big tub of Cosmic Catnip every spring, and a wrapped package of cat treats at Christmas.

They have everything they want. But they do get special treats like canned salmon and roast chicken.

19. Raven gets

a new natural bone each year. One of those big heavy ones that make a lot of noise a leave dents in the wood floor. We were going to get one today, but decided to get the new computer desk chair instead.
The old one (30 yrs) was listing heavily to starboard and about to dump one of us on the floor.

Sorry, baby, you will get one this weekend.

23. I just sent a gift overnight for my daughter's cat

I packaged all the gifts for her and her husband and sent them Priority on Saturday. On Sunday, I discovered the cat's gift had fallen out of the bag and was still in my car. So I went to the PO on my lunch hour on Monday and sent it overnight.

What can I say? It's my grandcat. :P

I sent him a package of Pounce treats and a toy mouse that squeaks just like a real one does just before being torn asunder.

26. My cat got four things:

A furry mouse, a catnip mouse (not a cloth mouse with catnip in it, a mouse made out of compressed, dried catnip), a giant jingly ball, and a ball made of crinkly plastic. I also got her a tin of sardines as a treat but she sniffed it once, turned up her nose and walked away, so I'm not counting that one. I've tried both tuna and expensive cat food made with human-grade ingredients, but apparently I've adopted the one domestic feline in the world who doesn't like fish! Then again, maybe she's a typical cat and considers her palate far too refined for something as common as tuna. :P

I got him a Santa Claus at PetSmart- it has sqeakies in the hands and feet. First 10 minutes, 1 foot has been torn apart and is sqeakless.

28. Our Bella is getting truly spoiled this year

Since she never had anything, we feel no guilt in spoiling her. And since she is remarkably smart, she's getting a couple 'interactive' and 'puzzle' toys among them a "Bumble Ball" and a bubble making machine. She already inherited all of my old dog's toys (14 years worth!) so she's pretty darn spoiled but given where she came from, she's earned it.

30. Well...our spoiled rotten kids get

Yes I called them kids. We have a 13 year old Collie, 11 year old Black Lab Mix, 9 year old Black Cat, 7 year old Black lab mix & 3 year old German Shepard Mix, all rescued. We get them some kind of special treat, they usually get a home cooked dinner. My parents even send them special treats. When we lived in Des Moines we would go to Three Dog Bakery and spoil them with all kinds of goodies.

...after I rejected one set for being "made in China," I settled on another brand that seemed okay. I also got them one of those giggle balls that makes a funny noise when they roll it, and can be filled with small treats that drop out at irregular intervals. I'm just hoping it doesn't provoke arguements tomorrow!
