Poll question: Why can't Philly sports teams win a championship?
Edited on Tue Mar-02-04 04:20 PM by mvd
Looking back over things that have happened since 1983 and Villanova's win, I'd say a combo of the factors in the poll - the only one I don't buy is the curse one.

3. Don't agree
It's not my favorite either, but it has quite a few things going for it. And places I think do suck have won championships. :-)

5. Just kidding
I went there a couple times on business trips. It's a pretty cool town, actually. ABD Anyplace But Detroit.

7. I'm usually not to be taken seriously
And I've visited tons of cities all over the U.S and have been delighted and surprised by almost all of them. Every place has good things to offer. I never understood the WC Fields quote about Philly.

8. No pitching "staff" for 40 years
that will change this year. They've had superstar pitchers but not a superstar staff. GO PHILLIES.

9. All sorts of things...
But Larry Bowa sucks as a baseball manager.
And I don't have too much more confidence in Andy Reid. It takes a good team to make it to the playoffs. It takes a good coach to help them win in the playoffs.

13. This Philadelphian votes for the Philly Curse
Edited on Tue Mar-02-04 05:40 PM by tom_paine
Of course, a more scietific view would reject this out of hand.

As a scientist, I am therefore forced to censure and ridicule myself for believing in the existance of curses.

14. Maybe the curse will be removed
...when they implode the Vet! (Isn't that happening this weekend?)

I hate to see the ol' girl go -- rats, cats and all -- but...

In 1964, there was no Vet.
