1. Our neighbors beat you to it.
Their tree was out by the trashcans on Christmas Day at about 5pm. They're busy, thrusting, yuppie types, so I'm guessing they had Christmas planned like a military operation:

"Tree"
"Check"
"Presents"
"Check"
"Dinner"
"Check"
"OK, Christmas is over. Get all this crap gone."
"Check"
"Back to work."
"Done"

Edited on Fri Dec-26-08 06:48 PM by pitohui
christmas is not over and the decorations should not come down until the 12th day of xmas, jan. 6

what really gets my goat are the atheistic hordes who have the tree recyclers come around on jan 1 or 2 to pick up the trees--i'm like wtf? i can't take my tree down yet you fuckwit xmas isn't fucking over!

wait a minute, I'M the atheistic horde of this neighborhood, hence the only person who has actually ever read the bible, heard of the 3 kings, or knows fuck-all about tradition -- real xtians do not sully their religion by actually learning anything about it

hence i'm in these parts the only person who even knows what the word "epiphany" means

it is to weep

in a few more years no one but a few "kooks" will even know what epiphany is or what the 12 days of xmas song is about

4. I always leave my stuff up through Epiphany, and I don't send cards
until after December 25, which is the FIRST day of Christmas. I don't blame anyone for wanting to get the house "back to normal", 'cos I know how you feel! And this is just a personal choice for me.
I've started putting the tree up a little later than I used to, so I can still enjoy it while it IS up. I do the non-tree decorating the weekend after Thanksgiving, then we do the tree the following weekend. It makes it a little less chaotic to spread it out a bit.
But again, just my personal choice - to each his/her own :-)

5. If you call Anglicans "kooks"...
... Epiphany is still in the Church of England calendar, last I looked as a holy day.

Plus services subseqent are "X Sunday after Epiphany" til about the 6th Sunday after Epiphany.

You probably got to abolish the Anglican communion before Epiphany is dead.

Mark.

10. I don't understand churches that don't recognize the liturgical calendar at all,
except to celebrate Christmas and commemorate Holy Week. I once asked an Assembly of God pastor about this. He was bragging about how they don't do non-biblical things, like the church calendar. I asked him if the celebrate Christmas. He said they did, so I asked how they decided when it was. He said "We do it when everyone else does". Then I asked whether they commemorate Holy Week and Easter. He, of course, said they did. I pointed out that those things are part of the liturgical calendar. He had no clue what I was talking about, but it seems weird to me to do parts of the calendar but not other parts.

Yep. Don't know sh*t about Christianity.
