I would've put someone else in the lead role. Cruise doesn't even seem to be putting forth the effort anymore. He just sleep walks through his roles. But everything else was really well-done. The cinematography, the scenery, the effects, the writing, the other actors. I even learned quite a bit. I hadn't realized how complex a plot it was, assuming this is accurate.

The major problem with the film is that it is so obviously intended as a vehicle for Cruise, who doesn't seem worthy of it. But everyone else involved worked on this film. It'd be a shame if they don't get the credit they deserve because of him.

So, Critters gives Valkyrie 3.5 stars. Next time, Cruise should play Hitler. Cuz I would totally give two thumbs up for a film of THAT plot!

1. I'm glad you liked it. However, I don't want to see it.
I can't stand Cruise and I am tired of films about Nazis.
How was your Christmas?

2. I know this is my obsession, but I found the Girardian issues it raised interesting.
Of course, the issues are raised by the historical realities, not the film. The film just got me thinking about them. These people were trying to stop sacrificial violence--war, the Holocaust--by committing a murder which it was hoped would bring peace. So, how do you bring peace in such a situation, if not by murder? But, as Girard points out, peace brought by such means is not a lasting and meaningful peace. Yikes! My head was spinning!

Besides, I haven't seen any movies about Nazis in a while. So, I was about due, I guess.

Christmas turned out better than I expected. Because of dubious weather, I didn't go north. But my dad and I spoke on the phone for quite a while. Several parishioners invited me to their homes, so I went to two such gatherings. And opened the gifts Santa left for the critters. And then talked to the ex last night. Then settled down with a cup of hot chocolate. Not a bad day.

You?

3. My family is great and I love them, but I had a terrible christmas.
I am very ill and in a lot of pain. I don't know what I am going to do with my life and I feel a lot of shame. I'm so scared. However, I love my family very much. I thank my family for being there for me. My parents love me and accept me for being an atheist and a bisexual, and that's the best thing ever.

6. I disagree
I thought it was a good movie and that Cruise performed well. Not a big Cruise fan either. Cruise does bear a resemblance to the real Stauffenberg so he was a natural to play the part.
