It is one of the first traps used against people. I believe evil tries to get people that have found good, to make false claims.

If a person receives a calling to try and be better, within a few days, evil will try to trick them, one of the ways is to try and get them to feel self important, or better then others. This literally happens days after starting down a path of good. I don't like to judge, but those that make the claim you mentioned turned off what I think is the better path, within a few days of testing. And the path is decades long.

First lie of the evil, is the spiritual world does not exist.
Second lie is to try and get a person to claim they are God-like or have God powers.

All glory belongs to God Almighty.

I hope people that fall to the trap you mentioned, find a way out of it.

"Evil" doesn't lurk about trying to trap people. Evil is within everyone, just as good is within everyone. And people think they are Jesus because they are mentally ill, just like people who think they are the Queen of England or Napoleon are mentally ill. None of them is evil.
