VCR/Tivo alert! Wed morning 2:00am. The legendary "Heaven's Gate" on TCM.

The 1980 Western that everyone has heard about but few have ever seen (I have). A financial and critical fiasco that destroyed United Artists and director Michael Cimino's career.

Great cinematography and production design. As for the story and direction, well that's up to you to decide. Pretty graphic violence as well. I think this is the original theatrical version.

The funny thing is that TCM is showing it because Joseph Cotten is the Star Of The Month and they're showing all his films. He's in the first 10-15 minutes and that's it! A glorified cameo role.

If you can't see it, try to get the book Final Cut by Steven Bach, who was a studio exec in charge of the film. Great reading about the making of Heaven's Gate and his dealings with Cimino.
