Happy New Year from Alaska -- some frosty photos for you. :)
I can't stay out in it long, but the subzero sure can be beautiful.

10. LynzM gave a good explanation.
In this picture it's the little rainbow looking blob of light over there on the right of the photo.

14. Sunset today 3:52, sunrise tomorrow 10:13.
We're gaining about a minute and a half a day now. From what I can find online quickly, the shortest day in Anchorage starts at 10:14 and ends at 3:42, so we've gained about 11 minutes since solstice.

15. It must be kinda cool in the summer though when you have daylight so long. I remember I worked at a
tea house in Lake Louise one summer. It didn't get dark there until after 11PM and dinner went on for hours in the daylight. Good memories.

17. I love Lake Louise.
We camp up there often, but a couple of years ago we went up there in early June and it looked like this:

All night the wind was blowing off the lake at about 30 mph, and we shivered and shivered until dawn, despite being fully dressed, in our sleeping bags and with an extra quilt. When we woke up, there was about 1/2 inch of snow on our tent! You just never know what you're going to get around here. :)

18. Did you ever go to the Lake Agnes Tea House? That is where I lived and
worked one July/August. Sometimes we would see weather (like rain) way below us at the Chateau. Was strange being higher than some weather.

21. Two & a half miles up a trail from the Chateau Lake Louise is the Lake Agnes Tea House.
We only had propane or wood for the stove. We served sandwiches and tea. I showered in a waterfall every morning. No electricity. Lots of really great customers. Was a nice summer.

Nice!

We didn't get the ice fog.

How much snow did you get last week? We were about a foot by Christmas night.

Happy New Year!

25. Actually, I live on the west side of Anchorage
Edited on Thu Jan-01-09 01:23 AM by Blue_In_AK
not far from the Coastal Trail. Most of these pictures (except the one at Spenard Lake) were taken from that parking lot just past the road to the post office on West Northern Lights. We've had a ton of ice fog here, it seems like forever. I guess you guys don't get as much out there since you're further inland. We got about eight inches of snow, I think -- enough that my husband had to get up and shovel it off the carport. :)

And happy New Year to you, too. We just got back from the Fire & Ice thing downtown. The fireworks were great.

28. Yep
Went over Xmas. First 2 days were great, but then it got very cold, and I did something to my right arm, so I was sidelined for the last 2 days. I didn't fall or anything, we think it might have been altitude sickness?

I need to get conditioned again.
