1. In HS...

we had a football team chaplain who used his homilies to tell stories. Problem was these stories had no beginnings or ends, and sometimes he'd said he was going to pick up next week where he left off, but then he'd start a new story or he'd skip huge segments or repeat himself. We finally got all the stories straight and he was about to wrap the whole thing up into some sort of purpose or meaning and an ending.

Then he died. For the life of me, I have no idea what he was getting at. Sometimes I wonder. And I miss those team masses. I'm not even religious.

And you let the "deadskins" beat you in your own stadium.

Oh, and it's only been 3 year since we won a playoff game. Much shorter drought than with the Cowchips. How long has it been? 12 years now?

Oh, and the "deadskins" beat the Eagles 2 weeks ago, held them to 3 points. That's the team that just scored 44 against the boys, knocking them out of the playoffs.

So, when you reminisce, you have to go back a little further than I do, dontcha!

But, I'm not going around acting like my team is the best thing since sliced bread when my team didn't make the playoffs. And, uh, my team wasn't America's team hands down favorite to just walk away with the superbowl.

Remember that game I told you about in 83 that I went to? One of the reasons that I remeber it so clearly is that something else notable happened to me that day..I um officially became a woman! So I have those two things tied together forever ....:rofl:

3. i really miss The Carol Burnett Show

It has been on my mind a lot (more) since Harvey Korman died a while back. I loved that show.

8. Lately, I have been reminiscing a lot.

I have been thinking a lot about the place where I grew up. I miss that feeling of "neighborhood" where you knew everyone and everyone knew you.

It's not goofy, but we did a lot of goofy things as kids. I guess almost everyone who grew up in the 50s and 60s has an idealized (and selective) rear-view of how it used to be.

Oh well....

9. That time the horse my friend was riding stopped and decided to lie down

The night my friend and I went down to the island to smoke one with a bunch of guys and one of them said, "It's a good night for fishing."

And another said "Yeah, I'm up for some fishing."

And the next one said, "I've got my rod."

And another said, "I've got my rod and two sinkers!"

And the first one said, "So how about it girls? Wanna go fishing?" *nudge, nudge, wink, wink*

And my clueless friend said, "Sure! That sounds like fun!" and I had to drag her out of there. :rofl:

usually it's music that makes me reminisce. There was some Time/Life ad with all of these dreadful songs from the 70s (John Denver, Charlie Rich, Helen Reddy... that crap) and I knew every stupid one of them! Completely reminded me of childhood.

Christmas ornaments. We have a tree full of Christmas memories going back to my mother's childhood.

13. Somehow my Dad got from his work these huge round pieces of white chalk,

big as dinner plates, and us kids would spend hours drawing things on the driveway and sidewalk with them. We never ran out of chalk, but it was white only.

I grew out of video games and sold it. I kick myself a lot for that now. Although on the plus side I own an Atari 7800 now.

Which was a computer that took big cartridges and a flush keyboard. It used Basic, and to get 4 little orange lines across the screen, I would type in a 20 line program. It would always freeze up when I got to the last line. And to think, now there are visualizations in windows media player, and I don't have to type 20 lines into a shitty program.

36. You just keep getting cooler and cooler

I had an Atari 800 (I think). I spent soooooo many hours playing the Infocom games if you remember them (Zork 1, 2, 3, etc). h I remember my best friend was over one day and we were trying to get through an Infocom game, Enchanter maybe, but my parents were having a garage sale and I had to watch it during the day while they were at work or something for a couple hours. So my friend and I would tag team each playing for a little bit then filling in the other who watched the garage sale so they could go and take over in game. Talk about reminiscing.

I had Pac-Man, Centipede, Space Invaders, and this little artillery game where your gun was on a hill, and you would have to guess what angle to shoot at to hit the other gun on a hill.

I sucked at Pac Man. Never liked the game as a result. I could not even tell you any of the games I had beyong the Infocom ones. I remember Zaxxon. And this Activision game called Zone Ranger, but for the life of me I can't picture it.

I rocked Centipede just so you know.

I was decent. I used to like Galaga and Galaxian at the arcade.

I was never smart enough to figure any of them out I guess. I did have patterns for the lightcycle section of the Tron game. I gave that game a lot of money. I liked Galaga and Galaxian too, but was not really good at either one. Oh I loved Tempest! Rocked that game too!

26. The smell of canvas tents. Hanging over the front seat of the car

talking to my dad, in the days before seat belts. Those really long sticks of "Bub's Daddy" grape bubble gum. Crown Regal sour lemon and sour cherry drops. Glass bottles of pop out of machines for five cents, with that little bottle opener built into the front of the machine. "The Wonderful World of Disney."

30. Reminiscing about sports teams that didn't win

Red Sox? Two World Series in the past five seasons.
Patriots? The franchise player and the defensive co-captains go down, and the still go 11-5.
Celtics? Defending NBA champions.
Bruins? Best start since the Orr/Espo era and best record in hockey.

Ah, yes, I'll reminisce about goofy shit like the Rod Rust Patriots, Rick "Larry Bird isn't coming through that door" Pitino, and Matt Young losing while pitching a no-hitter.

50. My grandparents' farm in Southern Ohio.

I spent many weeks there, summer after summer. Good well water and no indoor plumbing. I loved the animals and the old house, and especially hearing the whippoorwills in the evening as the sun went down. Smells, sights, sounds, textures, tastes-- some new experience for the senses every day.

Watching "Family Ties" -sometimes in bed with my sister and mother waiting my dad to come home from his School Association meetings

For that matter, watching the final episode of "Family Ties" with my dad and sister. That night was one of the occasions when Dad was looking after us for the evening while my Mom was out somewhere (can't remember where)

Being upset when "The Cosby Show" -my all-time favorite show -was replaced with "Family Matters"

Listening to my grandfather explain how the legal system worked -he made it very interesting

Hiding under my grandfather's desk while my sister and I played hide and seek

Learning for the first time that a box of chocolates sometimes had two layers and being absolutely amazed
