Anyone play "Egyptian"?
Edited on Sat Jan-03-09 03:59 PM by Dangerously Amused

I saw three college kids in a coffee shop a few days ago having so hysterically much fun playing a card game that I finally had to go over and ask them what they were playing. They said it was called "Egyptian." So I've googled the rules for the game and now I want to learn to play it.

Anyway, to you veterans: It seems to me that the person playing the card has an advantage in slapping since their hand is already right there at the card pile. Is that ever really an issue? If so, is there a work around? One of the rules sets I read said that the person has to draw the card away from him/her-self when playing it so that everybody sees the face at (approximately) the same time. Is that enough?

Also, what penalty do you use for an inappropriate slap? I've seen a few different ones suggested.

Thanks!

1. Oh man....
We used to play it in high school, but we called it "Egyptian Rat Fuck"... don't ask, I don't know. :P

It's been 11 years, so... can't remember enough to help you, sorry!

2. Yeah, that's one of the names that will link to the article in wiki.

There seem to be quite a few names assigned to this particular game. Even the kids in the coffee shop had a few different names for it, most but not all of them variations on "Egyptian.... (something else here)."

Thanks. I'm glad someone else out there is at least familiar with the game. When you come to visit, you, me, lizziegrace and lelapin will have a card and board game marathon! :7

4. It's called "Egyptian war" here.
It's usually not an issue as long as you're playing with semi-mature people. Have people draw the cards away from themselves, yes.

For an inappropriate slap, we usually make the eager slapper put a card or two on the bottom of the pile. There are much crueler punishments out there, I'm sure. :)

6.  "Semi-mature" people. Aye, there's the rub. :/

Ha ha.

Do you let people who are out of cards slap back into the game?

Thanks.

8. Not 'a' deity, 'the' deity. Sheesh
It was said (in the Shabaka Stone) that it was
Ptah who called the world into being, having dreamt creation in his heart,
and speaking it, his name meaning opener, in the sense of opener of the mouth.

Yeah. Posting that image would pretty much get my thread locked. And then I might never learn the secrets of Egyptian.

Sorry.

Sir.

15. "Egyptian"? Hmm, that's shorter than the term we used for it in high school - ERF
Egyptian Rat Fuck. Ah, good times.

I used to play that game back in the day, but it's been years since I've played and I KNOW my ERF skills are inappropriately rusty.

And I play to win.

"...mandates that the deck be completely burned by midnight and that no one else can play Ratscrew until the next day."

Thanks!

Tho I liked setting them up in rows and then knocking them down better than the actual game.
