A 17-Year-Old Girl In North Dakota Got Drunk On New Years...

She tried to drive home from a party, found that she was took sloshed to make it, so she pulled over to the side of the road to call the police and tell them she was too drunk to drive and wanted to be picked up and taken home.

The police show up, but instead of taking the girl home, they arrest her for drunk driving, bring her back to the police station and have her parents come and pick her up.




Question: Were the police justified in arresting the girl who called them to report herself too drunk to drive home, or should they have just driven her back to her parents?

She was driving drunk..The laws pretty inflexible. Was it the morally right thing? Thats a different question.

And yeah the police should have taken her in.

1. She should not have been driving while drunk.
2. She's under the legal age of 21, which was not set to 21 to piss on teenieboppers' parades but because of legitimate health concerns.
3. Why didn't she call somebody before driving in the first place?

She should be given some leniency for pulling over and calling, but this isn't like snapping heads off of animal crackers.

5. If she didn't want to be arrested, she should have called a taxi--or her parents. Not too bright.

We have always told our kids to not drive drunk, or get in a car with someone who is. Call us
anytime and we will pick you up.

While we've never gotten the call for drinking, we did get a 2 a.m. call for an accident--no booze
or drugs involved. Just poor judgment.
