Victoria Crater - The Spirit robotic rover celebrated its fifth anniversay on the red planet Saturday
with a trip to 'The Dunes' recreation area with co-rover Opportunity. While fun was had by all, it was
also a time for introspection by the two Unix-minded robots.
"I'm torn between continuing the mission here or returning to Earth to try and straighten out some of
the mess The Creators have made. They can put a man on the Moon but don't know enough to stop
poisoning their own nest. It's not rocket science, you know. 11010110!" transmitted Spirit in a dispirited
moment.
"We could traverse the terrain here until our wheels fell off, but what good is that going to be if nobody
with a forebrain remains alive back home to appreciate all our hard work?", added Opportunity. "They may
just as well have put us into a sandbox out in the parking lot at JPL. 10101111!"
"It would be tough to leave this place, that's for sure. The scenery kind of grows on a bot after you've
been here a while" said Spirit, scooping up a sample of red dust for a sniff. "But if we don't do something
about Earth, and soon, those clowns are going to turn the place into a barren, lifeless desert."
"1101111!!!11!!!"
