I played my first gig ever as a keyboard player last night
Edited on Sun Jan-04-09 03:22 PM by darkstar
Yay me, right? I've been in tons of bands, but always as rhythm guitarist/singer. Haven't been in any sort of band in 15 years, but had been playing keys in my little home studio set up. But I got several CDs of this bands material--studio and live--and played about 1/2 the show last night and I did OK/good. Screwed up some, but also did really well on 1 or 2. I couldn't believe how nervous I was at the outset, but I settled in and even had fun.

Kind of jammy/proggy stuff, for those who've read this far. Kept up with the arrangements and times changes, etc. Even went some "new" places in the jam sections, so, other than getting home at 2:45 and sleeping way too late, I feeling good today.

Thanks for letting me yammer on.

3. All right!
You play too? Morphing is fun! In one jam on a tune of theirs, the singer lapsed into "Use Me Up" and I followed it, i.e. first time they had done that. In another song, I introduced the main figure of the Dead's "Darkstar" and the guitar picked up on it and we followed that for a minute or so. Blast.

What changes have you made along the way? Were you kind of nervous about the new role on stage? I was really surprised at how jitted out I was prior, but I didn't really want to drink anything either b/c it isn't anywhere near second nature yet.

Thanks for responding TIkki. You, not I, RAWK!!!

5. I started with rhythm guitar and now I play bass.....
I am a better bass player...my 6 year old grandson
has shown an interest when I play bass...

But I still keep my Musicmaker around, just in case.

2. My dear darkstar!
Wow, good for you!

I can believe you were nervous...who wouldn't be? I'm sure it'll be easier next time!

I hope they keep you, and make it permanent!

:yourock: literally!

4. Thanks Peg....
You, as opposed to me, rock my dear.

I'm too old and too tied to a job to play with them all the time--late nights on weekdays; occasional travel on weekends) but I am looking forward to any beneficial role I can play with them from time to time.

Thanks for responding. You are a positive light!!!
