Poll question: Dylan Or Springsteen
After much deliberation I must go with the former.

1. There'd be no Springsteen if not for Dylan.

2. As Odd As It Might Seem There Might Be No Dylan If Not For Elvis
I believe Dylan famously said nothing in rock is new since Elvis.

But folk music has a long history.

Dylan, Elvis, Springsteen, The Beatles were all great artists. It's almost a crime to ask who is the best?

I wasn't asking folks to choose between their children. It wasn't "Sophie's Choice".

11. As long as we are on the topic...
What's up with that Traveling Wilburys song, "Tweeter and the Monkey Man?" Is it a friendly homage to Springsteen, or is Dylan dissing him? One would think that he wouldn't go to the trouble to work in all those references if it wasn't friendly, but there is a sarcastic edge to the song, and this *is* Dylan we're talking about after all.

17. Weird, but it depends on my mood, and I'm never in the mood for both at once.
Springsteen is more real, Dylan is more transcendental.

But I don't know if I could listen to Bob sing for 3 hours, so I gotta vote for The Boss.

20. how is this a contest?
History will laugh at you who vote Springsteen. This is like asking: The Beatles, or the Blues Magoos. It's not that I have a problem with the Blues Magoos, but.... huh? WTF?!!?!?!?!?!?!?

Or, here's another one: Mozart, or that asshole kid who played his own shitty compositions on the piano at this coffee shop where I used to hang out.

The two aren't even comparable.

...but then again, I personally think Billy Joel is THE best American songwriter EVAH, and Prince is probably the most talent musician of my generation, so what do I know.

Even though they're more or less contemporaries. Both great though.
