Let the Right One In: prepare to have new favorite vampire movie.
It was only in limited release in the US. I downloaded it (I know, I'm bad :spank:), and after watching it, I think I'm going to buy the novel today and I'll probably pre-order the DVD.

If you haven't heard of it yet, it's the story of a bullied 12 year-old boy who befriends a strange girl who turns out to be a vampire. What transpires after that is disturbing, funny, gory, touching, terrifying and heartbreaking all at the same time. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1139797/

It's a Swedish film adapted from a Swedish novel, so be sure to see it before it's remade for an American audience. The rights have already been acquired for an American remake, and they're sure to fuck it up.

1. I downloaded it a couple days ago.
I've heard good things. I'll probably watch it tonight.

2. You're going to love it.
The setting and the child actors are perfect. You won't be hit over the head with explanations about Eli's situation, but if you're like me, the hints might inspire you to go out and buy the novel.

And next year they'll probably turn it into an angsty teen movie aimed at the "Twilight" crowd. Fucking shame. :grr:

3. When I read a review of it, my first thought was "This is what Twilight should be!"

5. Definitely watch it tonight!
As soon as I finished watching it, I immediately tried to find a discussion board to talk about it! I need DUers to discuss this movie with!

9. Holy shit...
That film was like The Velvet Underground to Twilight's Good Charlotte. (I'm actually downloading Twilight right now so I can watch it and appreciate Let The Right One In on an even deeper level because of how great I know it is compared to Twilight. Then I can lord it over my friends who are all "ZOMG TEH TWILIGHT!!!1" Haha.)

10. Fkn-A!!!
I went out and bought the novel shortly after the last time I posted. I hope we can have a *spoiler* thread to talk about how many ways this movie is superior the usual goth-vamp dreck!

13. For sure.
It's not just a good vampire film, it's a good film in general. Cinematography, acting, editing, everything is great.

7. See post #5!
I didn't see Twilight, so I can't comment on it, but Let the Right One In is the kind of movie that sticks with you for a while.

6. I saw it in November at a film festival
I thought it was pretty good. I would certainly recommend it more than Twilight.

Sounds like it might be worth a viewing before Hollywood emos it up.

15. Okay, just watched it. Damn.

I mean, holy crap.

Simple concept, yet a very layered film. And I can only guess at what they could barely touch on in the film that was probably covered even more in the book.

Now I'm gonna have to find a copy of the book.

*edit* Okay, and looking it up on IMDB.com I saw a bit of trivia...

SPOILER WARNING
at the end when they're tap-tapping morse code to each other, they're tapping a word that means something like a small kiss. :P
