Former American Gladiator 'Nitro' Says Steroids Ruined His Sex Life
Here's a great way to keep teenage boys off steroids and other performance enhancers. Boys, if you take steroids, sex will hurt and you'll grow giant man-boobs!

Honestly, I think that needs to be in some sort of commercial. What 16 year-old boy would try to labor through the work of obtaining illicit substances, evading drug tests -- and all the other trouble it would be to juice -- in order to forego his adult sex life and grow female features?

Dan Clark, the American Gladiator formerly known as "Nitro," is coming out with a book about his life. In it, he says that he eventually had to undergo breast reduction surgery, in 1996, to free himself of the dreaded man boobs. On the bedroom performance ... uh ...

(Steroids) also took their toll on his private parts, so much so that he embarrassingly had to explain to women what was going on. "My b- - -s never really regained their size. They're kind of shriveled," he sadly told one bedmate. In addition, steroids subjected him to a "dull throbbing pain" every time he had sex.

Barry Bonds' mistress also had some fun stories about their sex life, too...

1. The "man boobs" is called gynecomastia.
Very common among heavy abusers of steroids, though not as severe as can be from body abnormalities.

For the record, Major League Baseball started airing anti-steroid ads that allude to the testicle issue.

6. Sure.
The dangers of hormone additives were signaled by an epidemic of premature sexual development and ovarian cysts in 3,000 Puerto Rican infants and children from 1979 to 1981. These effects were traced to contamination of meat and were reversed by dietary changes. Using research techniques, meat products were found highly contaminated with estrogens, and Zeranol and excess estrogens were found in the blood of afflicted children. This epidemic also was associated with increased uterine and ovarian cancers in adults.

25. I would say its more likely due to water supply contamination
I don't know if you've seen the studies that show hermaphroditic fish in many water ways, including the Potomac River. Its thought that various pollutants contribute to this, including speculation that human hormones have been released into the river, since there is no good way to screen for them during purification..

28. Possibly.
I will say that the livestock industry has a terrible record around here with pollution. I believe a terrible PFisteria outbreak on the eastern shore of Maryland was associated with chicken farms (most likely Purdue..whom even though I LOVE chicken I never buy) dumping into the Bay.
BTW, I heard today that our local environmental group, the Chespeake Bay Foundation is sueing the EPA for lack of effort in cleaning up the bay...even though they obligated by law to do so..

all races/genders/classes all have the same reactions. So...

breathing air? Probably not.

How about consuming a diet that has, as stipulated by the FDA, been compromised as to having levels of chemicals that induce those very same reactions?

You'd have to pay a jury off for them to find otherwise.

49. I knew you'd say that.
Drinking water has many sources, none of which have conclusively been linked to the addition of hormones (short of water tainted by feedlots, but whatever, right?). However, en masse, they eat the same shitty, chemically tainted meat and dairy.

I'd love nothing more than to see a double blind test where folks ate all the meat and dairy they wanted. One side, grass-fed, organic dope-less meat, milk and cheese against the average American diet of frankenburgers and pussjuice.

Like I said, to which you responded, the youth of our nation are maturing faster and earlier. If you don't have eyes, maybe you don't see it.

Send it back to the jury all you want.

Observation of a phenomenon does not equal proof of a cause. Show me the literature. (In fact while you're at it, show me something proving your observation that maturity rates are earlier, cause honestly I don't see it AND I have been around kids for oh the past 20 years)

Now there IS some work beginning on endocrine disrupters in water and some of the most prevelant are in your fucking laundry detergent and other ubiquitous pollutants. Nevermind actual hormones DIRECTLY ingested by women, and yes along with crap implanted in livestock. I am pretty god damn sure nobody has the proportions worked out or even proved a link, despite your magical observational skills.

The entire report has validity in the discussion.

Bear in mind, the FDA has already stated that the remainder of estradiol, etc (hormones) in meat consumed by people is within "normal" levels. The FDA openly admits that hormones and steroids are getting into our systems. Guess the trust of others of our beloved FDA is greater than mine.

How much "extra" hormone (both test and estrogen) should we be putting in our bodies? The FDA admits we're getting it, so I stand on my previous statements on quicker maturing in kids/teens that I stated before.

I love this last resort declaration of victory. Shame this one doesn't work out for you like it does too often (not that you're the only one here that does it). Blathering on endlessly touting an incorrect or opinionated argument JUST for the sake of argument. JUST to be a dick, until you've pissed off everyone in the discussion and they just forget your sorry ass and move on. At which point, you, full of pride, consider yourself the victor.

To the point that there's a reputation for it. I remember like it was yesterday, laughing hysterically at the posting of a DUer making a suicide run calling out this very behavior and naming names. That was a couple years ago, no less.

Cracks me the fuck up to this day.

37. First is an editorial with no citations and even your quote fails to mention gynecomastia
Your second link is to an abstract and I can't seem to find the whole paper in a quick search, but going by the wording in the abstract is seems to have been some kind of isolated incident, especially since there doesn't seem to be much else out there and no cause was fully determined.

My OPINION is that we shouldn't be using this shit on food animals and I sure as hell don't do it, but the science so far has NOT shown much conclusive evidence that is is harmful, and as for gynecomastia I can't find much of anything. Logic tells me if this were a well established scientific finding there would be more info available.

If you can track down something by somebody named Isselbacher (and most likely KJ are the first initials), they got quoted in an unsourced essay that turned up in several places.

My mom is french and came here in 85. She was an A cup and now a D.

There is a reason breasts are larger in the US than in Europe, and hormones in meat is one of them.

Especially in a day and age where "wham bam, thanks and be sure to get tested every 3 months" is given more spotlight than actually building up something of substance.

And the sports industry being influential in these folks taking these drugs - that's pathetic too. But whatever.

And if some guy with a DD-cup can hawk a book about his sex life, what I endured as a kid would sell thrice as much and become a Lifetime Channel movie of the week too. /ironicboast
