We actually found the place in the fridge that had been smoldering--it was in the freezer, actually. There is literally a hole *burned* into the bottom of the freezer. The wiring inside had actually smoldered enough to burn a hole through the plastic inside. Scary stuff. I'm so glad we managed to figure it out before it turned into a full-blown fire.

At least we get out student aid checks today, so replacing it isn't going to kill us financially. Fridges are expensive, but not NEARLY as expensive as re-wiring the kitchen or finding somewhere else to live at the drop of a hat would have been!
