Edited on Fri Jan-09-09 07:33 PM by Redstone
Turns out my Triglycerides are so high, they're leaking out of my damn ears.

So, it's:

Buh-bye, beer.

Vaya con Dios, vodka.

Auf Wiedersehen, wine.

Arrividerci, alchohol.

(I had actually sotpped drinking some time ago but didn't want to mention it here just in case I ended up falling off the old wagon - which, of course, I did. But this time, after climbing back onto the wagon, I'll stay there.)

But no matter, and no big deal. Drinking is, after all, a young man's game, and I'm not a young man anymore. And no regrets about having to say goodbye to my old friends; we had some damn good times together, didn't we? It's just time for us to go our separate ways.

1. My dear Redstone...
And I know you'll be fine with not drinking...

You'll keep your memories, and they will always be there for you!

We need you more ...

Please take care of yourself!

4. No worries, Peg. As I've told you before, I ain't dying
on anyone any time soon. Besides, despite the leaking triglycerides, I've been feeling pretty damn good lately. Averaging four to six good hours in the office almost every day, and even managed a trip to my cousin's house for a family gathering last weekend (even though I had to swallow my pride REALLY HARD and let my older son do the driving; I simply CANNOT stand being a passenger in a car).

Christ, when you have health problems, it's amazing, the things that you used to take for granted, but now count as a victory.

Hey, I went somewhere 45 minutes away, actually ate something, and hung out with my family for three hours! Oh, yes!

But I'm on my way back. Trust me on that.

2. May I buy you a fresh, crisp, clear, spring water?
In an evironmentally friendly container? :hi:

Take care of yourself - health is a lot more important than a momentary buzz.

3. Actually, I've switched over to pomegranate juice. We have a store in town where
you can buy it for two bucks a bottle, versus the seven dollars you pay for that pretentious POM stuff in the grocery store.

Still amazes me that they'll grow and harvest and juice the pomegranates, and bottle the juice in Kazakhstan (really!) and ship it all the way here, all for two dollars a quart.

6. Ah, I'll toast you with an O'Doul's or some such weenie excuse for an
Adult Beverage.

No matter, as I said; I've had my fun. No regrets.

12. Thank you, m'dear. It's not been a struggle so far, rather being
a calm acceptance. But if it does become a struggle, I'll reach out.

You're a good friend, and I appreciate that.

16. Ah, but if you don't NEED to, you don't HAVE to. I'm not about to become
one of those preachy bores.

I'm reminded of Charlie Smith, that 120-year-old black guy in Florida that the national news discovered back in the 1980s...when the newspeople asked him how he managed to live so long, he told them "I don't know. But the only thing I've done all my life is, since I was nine years old, I've had two fried eggs and a glass of whiskey for breakfast every morning."

Good for him. I can't do that, but I'm glad he was able to.

13. Oh, BI, it's always good to hear from you. Don't worry; this is just a case of me
moving into the next phase of life; it's not like I've defined myself with alcohol (though it may have seemed otherwise from my posts here).

I'll be fine. And I'll be here.

Thanks again for your kind words.

This is not the end of the world, and if it means you staying on this planet for awhile longer than that's what you're going to have to do!

15. Thanks, but I'll stick with the pomegranate juice and the fake beer;
that O'Doul's actually tastes marginally less than horrible if you drink it REALLY cold.

How have you been lately, sweetheart? We haven't talked for some time.
