So I almost got hit by a car yesterday at work
and I totally forgot about it until this morning when my coworker brought it up... and I became totally spooked and gunshy about any vehicle passing us today.

I'm currently working in a low traffic area - the Boston Sand and Gravel area which only has a few access roads and the rest is cratered dirt. The speed limit on the road is 15 mph but the majority of vehicles traveling the road we've been on are going at least 30 and many times faster.

Anyhow, when we're working we set out plenty of cones, leave the beacon flashing and wear our vests. On a normal street people slow down and make an effort to avoid us. The access road we're working on doesn't work that way; they just speed by and some come way too close to us and/or our equipment.

This was the case yesterday when I as at the door (of my van) facing the road getting a piece of equipment ready to use. When I was finished I turned away and towards the road to get started when a vehicle whizzed by going at least over 30 mph and just almost hit me - I felt my hair brushed. It freaked the shit out of me but I blocked it out quickly as I had work to do.

My coworker brought it up this morning and told me that he saw it happening and wanted to yell something or do something to save me but he froze up; he thought I was going to get creamed and was worried. That brought it back to me and he's right - that was fucking terrifying. :scared:

I'm kinda ashamed of myself because I'm almost always the safety-nazi at work. That wasn't really my fault but I'm usually aware of my surroundings. :scared:

Ps: How weird this happened the day after we saw someone hit. :scared:

5. I know
Usually it's somewhat exciting (even if scary) but it doesn't directly involve me.

6. I was overly careful today
I constantly looked back and forth while working on the access road and was almost useless.. well not useless but I'm sure I added some time to our job in that brutal weather. My coworker also yelled out to me every time a vehicle was approaching.. usually while they were far away.

I need to go spend some money on some more winter items because next weak is going to be unbearable.
