Does anybody live near Laguardia Airport?

I live in Queens, across the river from the airport a short way. Last night between two and three AM there was a helicopter hovering VERY close over our block - it was extremely loud, and the noise woke me up. As I was looking around, their light was shining down over the block, once or twice right into my window. After about an hour it left.

Now I have seen this happen three other times in the space of a year. Every time it happens, at least a dozen police cars go prowling up and down our (one-way) street, followed by cops on foot.

I contacted the 115th precinct and recieved no answers. I just want to know if anybody lives around here and knows whats going on.
