We lost our little cockatiel this morning
We've had Piper, our female cockatiel, for about 12 years. She died earlier today from a seizure.

ginbarn and I are a bit down in the dumps today over this. We knew she was getting up in years, but this still comes as a shock to us.

She was a rescue from one of our relatives who didn't know how to properly care for parrots. We outfitted Piper with a larger cage when we got her home and upgraded her to an even bigger cage a few years later. She got fresh food and water on a daily basis, plenty of toys, lots of millet, and constant companionship and love.

We'll miss our little girl dearly.

5. We appreciate it greatly
She was in a place where she was safe and comfortable, and I don't think she suffered. Bless her little heart.

6. Thank you
We've had birds in our household for as long as we've been living under the same roof. It feels odd, disquieting, depressing without hearing a single chirp.

At least we have our cats. Now if only one of them would stop hiding under the bed...

7. My sympathies to you both.
 My parents owned a pair of cockatiels for a brief period when I was very young, but my dad turned out to be allergic so we had to get rid of them. :( Cool birds, though. Sorry to hear about your loss.

9. Aw, man...
That's pretty harsh. I've never heard of an allergy to cockatiels before, but they do produce something akin to dandruff, which can itch something fierce and probably triggered your dad's reactions. Piper would occasionally let us try to scratch some of that off of her head, which made her feel better. Usually, we just gave her a light misting with a water bottle, and she enjoyed her little showers as it took care of a lot of that duft.

Thank you for the kind thoughts. We're still bummed, but we'll be okay.

10. Those little bundles of feathers can find a way into your heart.
Condolences derby379. I understand; we've had several friends leave us. You gave her a good life.

It was a little rough last night. But we still have a couple of sweet kitties to comfort us.
