In the song "Bang a gong/Get it on", what does this lyric mean? (if anything)
"You've got the teeth of the hydra upon you"

You know. That song. BTW, the lips don't sync to the lyrics but damn, here's a great video of it.

I know some of the other lyrics are puzzling, maybe, but I was just wondering if anyone knew if it was a reference to something else?

:wtf:

1. In some cultures, it is customary to strike a gong just before having sex.
Sheesh! I thought EVERYBODY knew that! :eyes:

2. It was "Teeth of the hydra upon you" that was the lyric I was curious about.
Never understood/got the reference. Any thoughts on that bit?

3. The Lernean Hydra of Greek myth had twelve heads. if you chopped off one of them, two more
would grow in its place. That's a lot of teeth...

5. *The 'teeth of the hydra' part refers to Greek nmthology (sic)
and the adventures of Jason and the Argonauts. After killing tthe Hydra monster, the teeth are collected for their magical poewers of some sort. I vaguely remember the story. Can someone further clarify this?

7. Ah, thanks I wasn't thinking of its teeth like that, but that...
...caused me to search a little differently and in searching for "Dragon's Teeth" found that the idiom "Sowing Dragon's Teeth" meant to cause discord.

Thanks!

Next, "Cloak full of eagles line"!

But DU has been helpful and patient enough, thanks!

8. Robert Palmer had a response to that when he recorded it in Power Station...
...he said that he wasn't even going to attempt to understand it, that (in his opinion) it called for a "pure attitude" performance, so that's what he did.

Marc Bolan was an entity unto himself. To some, he was huge, a rock god. To others, he was off the radar. I personally didn't get most of what put him on the map, but I liked "Bang A Gong" and "20th Century Boy."
