x( :grr:

No one can make you feel quite as worthless, selfish, clueless, sick, guilt-ridden, and downright PISSED OFF like your own mother.

Thanks for always being there for me, Ma!

6. I once heard this joke that sums it all up:
Q. Do you know why your parents can always push your buttons?

A. Because they installed them.

7. I know the feeling.
Except it's my dad who does that. He's gotten a lot better about it and we get along OK for the most part, but he does have a knack for making me feel like the lowest piece of crap on the planet when he wants to. :( I hope things get better for you soon!

8. I know exactly how you feel.
Saturday was my mom's birthday. At 9:30 in the morning I called her to wish her a happy birthday and find out what she was doing that day. Maybe I'd take her shopping or movie if she had no other plans.

So, my mom answers the phone and then the line goes dead. I finally reach her and she told me she had just got out of bed and tripped on the phone cord and fell down.

Then she goes on to tell me that I shouldn't feel guilty that she fell because of my phone call.

WTF?

I don't want my mom to be hurt and I'm sorry that she fell. But I don't feel guilty. My mom is chock full of enough guilt for the both of us.

they've staked out their territory. In my case, I decided to end the cycle, and didn't have kids. However, it was the easy way out...

And my father.

They still are making me feel like shit during a time when what I need more than anything is their support.

I'm sorry for your loss.

32. Aw, sweetie.

I'm sorry you have to go through this. I'm kind of there with my own Mom, most of what you mentioned and lots of passive-aggressive stuff, and her "out" is always that she didn't KNOW that what she was doing was hurtful to someone, so how can she be held accountable?!

What helped me a lot was hearing a professional say, "Your mother is never going to be a mother to you. It's going to be up to you to find the support you need(ed) from her, elsewhere." Once I stopped expecting her to be Mom-like (and being disappointed in her when she wasn't), it has been easier to handle her limitations.

Love to you.
