1. I watched it as a kid and was a big fan

even then I understood at least that the Moon could not possibly be moved from solar system to solar system like that but I still enjoyed the episodes and even had all the cool toys including a large toy Eagle space craft with several action figures.

2. Given the prevalence of Star Trek (this was 1975 and in syndication),

making them travel in a space ship would have been instant lawsuit material... while half-daft, it was still somewhat innovative to play the idea out with a straight face, laughable as it is -- especially as the show otherwise treats outer space physics with some realism (pressure suits, lesser gravity on the moon, what happens if you break a window in a pressurized environment, etc).
