Why I hate Minnesota in January:

* Wednesday: Variable clouds and windy with scattered snow flurries and snow showers. Areas of blowing snow. Wind chills approaching -20F. High 3F. Winds NNW at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of snow 60%.
* Thursday: Windy, snow showers possible. Highs in the low single digits and lows -16 to -20F.
* Friday: Mix of sun and clouds. Highs -9 to -13F and lows -12 to -16F.

2. I'm waaay too wimpy to survive those conditions.

We had an Arctic blast for a couple weeks in December and I hardly left the house. Even then I was cold (in spite of my five layers of clothing and the furnace blasting) because the stupid cold air would seep under the door.

3. It's a dry kind of cold in MN

The winters here are very dry, and the cold doesn't feel quite the same as that damp, bone-chilling cold you get in wetter climes.

I spent one winter in London (in the UK), and I found the winter there to be as cold (and at times colder) than the winters in Minnesota, even though it was at least 10 degrees warmer in London.

And once you get to 0°F, it doesn't feel much colder. -20°F feels just as cold.

8. Funny you should say that!

Garrison Keillor used to live a couple blocks away from me. He moved out a few months back because a neighbor was expanding their carriage house to ridiculous extremes and thereby blocking Garrison's view.

And anybody who stays in this god-forsaken hellhole is clearly batshit insane. I've got paperwork to prove it, too. :D

Of course, "they" in my experience have all been
retired Minnesotans who relocated to NC and Florida
after age 55.

Personally, that weather report sounds like a foretaste
of 'Viking HELL' to me.

Pedestrians aren't welcome here
and the bus drivers can't drive in the snow without getting stuck -- sooo ---

nor get me to work on time

It's SLUSHY
It's SLIPPERY and ICY
It's ANKLE DEEP PUDDLES OF WATER
and
Knee-deep snow along the sidewalks

which,

if you have to happen to have to cross the street

means leaping into snow about 3 1/2 feet deep

I got a house for sale in Houston. For real.

It froze briefly one night in Houston a couple of weeks ago. That was the first hard freeze in Houston in SIX YEARS. Global warming I guess.

When I was growing up in Houston in the sixties, we had 3 or 4 hard freezes, where it got into the low 20s overnight, per year.

However, we spend six months out of the year indoors in the air conditioning, b/c it's too hot and humid to do anything outside.
