Don't get too obscure on me. I have to have heard of it to be able to insult your taste sincerely.

if it gets its balls caught in a blender.

And because there are a lot of dumb rednecks out there.
Their best song 'That Smell' could've easily been applied to all of their music.

was insulting the radio station that the teacher would put on during lab. since late 90's music sucked moldy ass, it was like shooting fish in a barrel.
i cut my teeth on that garbage. spice girls, mariah carey, it was all too easy.

152. Excellent!
I talked to my 6th Grade about them (I teach Music) and I am going to put together some lessons. I hear shades of Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" in the Winter section in some of their playing. I'm going to do something with it anyway.

The few students who had heard them were amazed to learn they are three (previously four) cellists! They were sure it was electic guitar and bass.

21. Radiohead is one of my favorite bands, but I'm still happy to insult them.
Once, they made music, then they made pretentious noise that is popular among hipster douchebags. Then they made music again, but you can't go home again. Expect the next album to be sort of like Lou Reed's 'Metal Machine Music' but accompanied by Thom Yorke's screechings.

137. I love that one too!
But I heard TR, in response to a request from the crowd for Freeborn Man, say "Man, I can't sing that shit anymore!" This was after his voice started to go (what a shame!) and he couldn't get the high notes in that song any more.

He still plays it occasionally, if somebody else does the vocals (Peter Rowan, e.g.).

I think this song actually might've made things worse.
I had to sing this song in elementary school chorus and hated every minute of it. The horrors of growing up in the 80's, I tell ya.
What amuses me is Michael Jackson's ridiculous outfit, the fact that Bob Dylan seriously can't sing, Cyndi Lauper is trying way too hard, Paul Simon looks embarrassed to be there, and in general, everybody takes themselves way way way too seriously.
The amount of pure ego in this video cannot be safely handled by human beings.

They are also responsible for the existence of Oasis, and that is a shame they will never be able to live down.

140. Why? She has no talent. She just sings dumb controversial songs for one thing and one thing only.
Attention. She thrives off of attention. She's immature, irritating, and dumb as a stump.

148. Who doesn't hate them? They suck. They're a wussier Nickelback.
Rob Thomas is one of the most irritating assholes in music. His work with Santana made me stop liking Santana. Sorry, you can't make a deal with the devil and expect to come away from it unscathed.
Their music fills me with nausea. Their songs are the same boring romantic drivel that polluted the airwaves all through the 90's, and like a cockroach in a nuclear winter, they simply refuse to die.
Where artists like Beck and Radiohead were experimenting and being creative, and bands like Coldplay or Oasis at least were ripping off GOOD music, Matchbox 20 was content to simply make the same dull lifeless crap everybody else was making.
I consider them partially to blame for the death of commercially successful good music.

145. Hey, it's easy to be considered 'good' when we're talking about the 80's...
considering that back then, anybody with a synthesizer and a can of hairspray could shit out a top 10 song or two.
In that environment, the Talking Heads seem like the Beatles.
However, they're not. They're just masters of mediocrity. They'll be best remembered for being completely unmemorable.

That being said, 'Once in a Lifetime' and 'And She Was' are both really good songs.
So they managed two good ones. Bully for them.

149. I just started listening to Modest Mouse recently!
But even when I like a band, I can find their flaws.

Their lead singer has an interesting interpretation of singing. Where most of us considering singing to be something that sounds 'good,' he is far more content to sing like he's passing a stone. This, of course, adds a distinctive flavor to their recordings, the same way sheep intestines add a distinctive flavor to haggis.

156. A bunch of louts. Keith Moon did more drugs than Detroit, and the guitar smashing was just tacky.
They are responsible for Limp Bizkit's reprehensible cover of 'Behind Blue Eyes' (if the song never existed in the first place, we wouldn't have had to listen to the noxious cover of it), and they cannot be forgiven for that.
They're better than the Rolling Stones, but that's like saying Stalin was better than Hitler.

170. Yes, it is ripe for a ribbing.
Let's do it song by song...
1. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band - Lame gimmick song. Like I care about any of this crap.
2. With a Little Help From My Friends - You know you have problems when Joe Cocker's cover of your song is much much better. Nothing good ever came out of letting Ringo sing.
3. Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds - Yes, John, we know you were doing every drug known to man at the time. You don't need to express it in song.
4. Getting Better - Liar! This song gets worse every time I hear it.
5. Fixing a Hole - Boring. Next.
6. She's Leaving Home - So unbearably sappy that it's actually kind of good.
7. Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite - There are only two 'great' songs on the album. This is one of them.
8. Within You Without You - Sometimes George wrote beautiful songs like 'Something' and 'Here Comes the Sun' and sometimes he wrote...stuff like this. From the period when George thought a sitar would make any song sound good. This is likely because he, like John, was on a ton of drugs.
9. When I'm Sixty-Four - So Paul is just as drugged up as the rest of them and he STILL manages to make a song this boring. Hey Paul, when you're 64, guess what? You'll still be an asshole. Asshole.
10. Lovely Rita - This song made me hate meter maids.
11. Good Morning Good Morning - This song is actually pretty cool.
12. Sgt. Pepper's blah blah (reprise) - Who the fuck cares? Why does this even exist?
13. A Day in the Life - Amazing song.

So three good songs and a whole bunch of mediocrity somehow totals up to a classic record?
It doesn't add up.
'Abbey Road' and 'The White Album' and 'Revolver' and 'Rubber Soul' are all FAR better than this.

175. Going for the obvious joke would just be crass.
For a band fronted by somebody as hot as Shirley Manson, they sure manage to make some uninteresting music.
I mean their only really GOOD song is 'Thirteen' and nobody has ever heard that, so they therefore have no good songs.
They don't suck hard enough to be hated, but they're not good enough to bother listening to. If I hear Garbage on the radio, I'll definitely say 'meh.'
I mean, I'm not going to go off on a tirade on how they're music is utter shit, it's just utter bland with no real bite.
It was more effective in its time.

First of all, they had the worst name for a band ever.

Third of all, they're only remembered for one song, which everybody assumes was done by David Bowie anyway.
