Anybody tried the Pedi-Paws pet nail thingie?
Mrs. B just got one for me, and I'm still getting the doggs used to it. They're such wusses they hate for anybody to mess with their paws. But I tell ya what, this thing WORKS. Just like in the commercial. Grinds the nail down instead of cutting (or crushing) it. The motor is quiet and powerful. The noise, of course, comes during the grinding - this thing is basically a Dremel tool with a guard over the business end.

Muffin, of course (or as we sometimes call her, SATAN), gets snippy about ANYTHING close to her paws. Did I snippy? Hell, she gets snarly and snappy!

Anybody else tried the Pedi-Paws?

1. no but i'm tempted to buy it, we have a guinea pig and his nails are black so trimming
them can be difficult, i'm really afraid of cutting them down too far and he'll only sit still for so long when he knows it's clipping time. I don't know if his nails are too little for it though.

3. It would do the trick, for sure.
And since the nails are so small, it would do it in a hurry.

2. No but I walked past one in the pet store last night.
Considering how sore one of my fingers are typing from a cat claw that "accidently on purpose" got my finger I would be interested to hear if any cat owners have had luck with it..

Oh and I know I hang out here too much..I walked by it and did a double take..at first I thought it was a Ped-egg..:scared:

5. My cat would have dismembered me if I had tried in on him.
Cats are just so pissy, ya know!

Ol' Riley (my late great feline) has been gone for a couple of years now, though.

6. yeah, same here
my cat's claws should be trimmed, but I'm afraid of the damage she'll do to my hands if I try. If cats like Pedi-paws, I might just try it.

10. Kitty would accidentally get the other nine fingers and the throat
before you got one claw, I suspect.

11. I really cannot imagine trying this with a cat.
And you can't train a cat to do ANYTHING it doesn't want to do.

My dogs, however, are getting used to it, once they figured out that it really doesn't hurt. Except for Muffin/Satan. I haven't tried her yet.

13. I've manually clipped my old cats claws....
But she was 15ish or 16ish and not the big strong spazzy cats I have now..but I gotten do something!
(one cat likes to wake me up by planting a claw in my behind, so I'll try anything to stop that!)

14. I wouldn't buy it for cat claws
cat claws are so thin, and I don't see a cat sitting still for the kind of vibration on their feet that pedipaws has. It would be much quicker to just snip them with regular cat clippers; it's faster, quieter, and probably less bloody for you in the long run.

9. I'd like to try one; one of our dogs must dip his nails in Vitamin E when we're not looking, they
grow that fast, and I hate cutting them.

12. my pedi-paws review
I came home for holidays and see that the nails on my parents' geriatric dachshunds were really overdue for trimming, and my mom had bought Pedi-Paws. I grab the first victim and start filing away. Yeah the thing really DOES work. There are a few things I don't like, though. Regardless of what the ad says about the built in guard for trapping the filings, dust flies up everywhere so get prepared to inhale some noxious dog nail cloud. The guard seems to work best as a guide for keeping the nail steady while it gets filed. I recommend putting a towel down to catch the superfine dust which really stinks. The other thing I don't like is that you really have the change the sandpaper wheel for each dog, at least if they have a good bit to file. It wore down pretty quick. The last downside is that if you have a wiggly, noncompliant dog in your lap, the nail can get trapped down inside the guard up against the sandpaper wheel, which is a bit alarming until you figure out a good angle and strategy.

All in all, it's awesome, I recommend it to everyone. There are few things as stressful as cutting black dog nails and "quicking" them. With pedipaws you can file more often than you would clip, so you don't end up in a dust cloud like I did when I went to town on 4 months of growth. Once they are trimmed, it's easy to maintain.

19. I wouldn't...it really vibrates hard and you have to push cat claws out manually to get at them
If your cat sits still for Pedipaws you might as well just clip them manually anyway since it's faster and cheaper for cat type nails. I love pedipaws for dogs but I still cut my cats' nails manually. I don't think I even thought about using it on the cats...I'm not that masochistic! :scared:

21. Thanks.

We should clip the cats nails more often, but they really hate it. Was hoping for an alternative - ah well.

18. Yeah, the smell of burning nail dust is rather noxious.
The thing I like is that you can get the nails rounded, with no sharp edges.

20. yes, that is a definite bonus..
I would always spend a long time using a people nail file to get them rounded down after clipping manually. They can scratch their eyes and other sensitive spots if the claws are left raggedy :evilfrown: Pedipaws is a great labor saver.

17. We got one for our 11 y/o beagle-dachshund mix
and it seems to work pretty well. She doesn't like it very much, but I think that's because she just hasn't had time to get used to it and it scares her a little. We're working on that, though (plying her with treats helps some ;)), and so far it seems like a better deal than getting the vet to do it.

22. I've got it, but I don't like it.
I bought it mainly for my Rottie's nails which are long and really hard to cut. But with the Pedi-Paws, it took me over 15 minutes just to file one nail. And it is too abrasive for my Chihuahua's nails. I don't recommend it.

23. I've been thinking about getting one for my 2 cats.
I am considering the # of stitches I will probably get if I do try it.
