question about political donations..
I understand that there is a $2000 limit on contributions (well, that's what I think it is)... Does this mean per person/org - or in total per year?

Time to start throwing money at Kerry and the Dems and I'm not sure if I'm starting back at zero or need to count what I've already given.

thanks

3. Per person, per candidate, per ELECTION CYCLE.
In other words, you can still give $2K to Kerry (or whoever) now, AND give $2K for the general.

then how is it a dinner to one of Bushie's dinners or any candidate for that matter can cost over that $2000?

28. Yes!!!! And at rush hour too!
:scared:

I once landed at LAX, got my rental car at 4:30...my hotel was in Pasadena. That interchange right by Dodger Stadium was a nightmare (10 and 110, I think).

was there a game that night? then maybe I'll feel for you - ha. But, if you're not used to it, it can make you a bit nervous.

I work about 2 miles north of LAX but live about 20 miles south. Takes me at least 45-60 minutes in the morning and going home :eyes: God only knows.

Sorta like driving in Houston - just haul ass and guard your territory! :D

32. Oh, I think at points during the day, traffic moves OK...
...it's not horrible ALL the time. :-)

I love LA - if it weren't so damned expensive, I'd move there. I dated a girl from Long Beach for a while...I thought about relocating.

Basketball doesn't exist for me now...Tim's hurt. :-( Plus, I don't get really interested until the playoffs.

33. Long Beach?? that's where I want to move to..
but it's farther from work :-( I love it there though.

the real estate is nuts here. I bought a place in 98 and already have $150,000 in equity. There's NO way I could buy into the market now.

This freaking computer is making me nuts.. I'm gonna go before I crash - shoulda stayed at work :-)

later

10. It could be soft money...
...it could also contain a written (and signed) notice that a portion of the money is for the primary cycle, and a portion for the general.

You could give $4,000 to Kerry right now, with the stipulation that half is for the primary, half for the general. If he doesn't get the nomination (I know, I know), he must by law refund the second $2,000.

23. Oh dear...
Here's the trouble with my being a Lounge Rat, I never talk seriously. ;)

From July of last year until I dropped out in January, I was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. House of Representatives from Wisconsin's 5th District.

Then I dropped out and started swearing a lot on DU, 'cause I fucking well don't have to impress nobody no more :D :bounce:

25. Nini...donations over 2,000
and special events. It's common for a campaign to have 'hosts', sponsors, or whatever. Campaigns ask folks to dedicate to raise $10,000, $50,000, $100,000 or whatever. So they call their rich friends and ask them to the event. Bundle it together and you met your goal. The folks who meet this get a special treat like dinner with the candidate with other money raisers. A picture with the candidate. I assume if you raise enough than you have special access to the WH if your candidate is elected.

We are all restricted to $2,000 per candidate per election cycle. You and I could give $4,000 to Kerry if we could afford it. But your spouse and children can give also. Folks frequently give for young children.

I got curious about all this a few months ago and did some research.
