Job interview tomorrow
Wish me luck? It's only my second real job interview, and I'm kind of nervous. Thanks.

1. Totally! You've got it.
Okay, you didn't ask for this, but I'm going to tell you anyway.

Back when I was in Corporate America I had to interview oodles of people. Tons of people. Way more people than I would have liked. So I can tell you with utter sincerity that the person who is interviewing you may be just as nervous as you are. They want to make a good impression of their company just as much as you want to make a good impression about yourself.

However, some interviewers are better than others. If he or she asks you, "where do you see yourself in five years" than you know they are an idiot amateur.

So here is my advice whatever it may be worth.

1. Be yourself. Goes without saying, but insincerity can be spotted light years away.
2. Be specific. If they ask you a general question, answer it and then give them a concrete example that illustrates your answer.
3. Do not under any circumstances use the phrase "people person" or "interpersonal skills."

This is going to sound odd, but it has always worked for both me and my sister. Treat it as an academic exercise. Yes, you would like the job, but you don't have to have it. Lighten up on yourself and consider it practice for the "real interview." Which of course doesn't ever actually exist.

Good luck!

10. Think of it like you are interviewing them too: do you think you'd fit in at this workplace? Is the
job going to make you feel great at the end of a day for a job well done? Do they ask intelligent and meaningful questions?

It works. I was painfully shy but got over my fear of interviews by thinking like that.

11. Exactly. Interviewing is a two-way street, but not enough people
realize that.

I used to interview people all the time, and the ones who really stood out to me, despite anything on their resumes, were the ones who asked me questions also (and I don't mean, "how soon could I take vacation?").

12. Update
Thanks to everyone who wished me luck and offered good advice - I appreciate it all! :) The interview went pretty well, I think, but I won't know anything until late next week at the very earliest. Thanks again for all your support! :yourock: :grouphug:
