What really sucks about life....

Is that guy who tried to fake his own death could have saved a lot of heartache and just booked a ticket on USAirways, and then wandered away in the confusion on one of the ferries instead.

1. Except of course there would have been no way to know which plane would go down ....

I give major props to that ditch-the-plane, pick up the motorcycle guy: most of these big time white-collar criminals seize up out of fear: I'd have a lot more respect for Bernie Madoff, for example, if he'd get some high-tech electrician to remove that anke bracelet, or if that's not possible, at least some top-flight surgeon to visit his Park Avenue home sub rosa to amputate his foot so that a non-GPS run-for-it could be attempted. But no! Bernie has settled with mailing million-dollar jewelry to close family and THE REST OF HIS LIFE IN PRISON!!! Suck it up! Cut of your foot, dude!

Most bullshit billionaires have no balls.

So this is why I have to pay at least grudging respect to the fake plane crash guy.

3. I'm not sure he was trying to fake his death. If so, he was an idiot at it.
The dude radioed a tower that his windshield had broken and he was bleeding profusely. Later, just before he slashed his wrists, he told someone something cryptic, like they had gotten his intentions all wrong, but he had panicked.

I think he may have planned to slash his wrists and die in the plane after he radioed in, but chickened out, and parachuted instead. If he died in a plane crash, he'd probably have life insurance. It wouldn't cover an obvious suicide, though.

On the other hand, he had a motorcycle waiting in storage, and had only put it there the night before, so maybe he planned to escape. If so, it was a stupid plan, and worse execution. He had to know that jets would scramble the moment he announced he was in trouble and then broke radio contact. They always scrambe military jets when a plane is flying without controls, and over Florida he's never far from a military base. He also had to realize that they'd notice there was no body. If he had aimed the plane over the Gulf, and not radioed in in such dramatic style, maybe they'd assume the body had washed away, and he'd have had a chance.

Then again, maybe he was just stalling for the time to escape.

Any way it went, it was a stupid plan, and if that's the best he could dream up, it's no wonder he went broke in the first place.

Yeah, I think about weird stuff too much. Insomnia is a pain sometimes. :)
