Who loves the Bodhran
Edited on Wed Mar-03-04 09:16 PM by The Lone Liberal
Young Dubliners, Bodhran.

Makes me want to be in a pub in Cork, Dublin, Limerick, Wexford, Kinsale, Dingle, Killarney, Kilkenny, Porte Louise, Sligo, Donegal, Lisdoonvarna, any pub in Ireland.

Where is your favorite Irish pub?

ah, yes, the penny whistle.

1. Duignan's in Dublin.
A workingman's pub on the North Side -- coupla blocks west of the GPO. Very basic. You ordered beer or whiskey -- nothing fancy. A turf fire in the fireplace always burning, and music from the radio.

Slattery's on Capel Street -- a great singing pub, though I read recently that it had been yuppified.

O'Flaherty's in Dingle -- another great pub for live music and great craic.

Kruger Kavanagh's in Dunquin -- the last parish before Ameri-kay.

2. There's a place in Austin I'm quite fond of
'Tis called Fádo. Great atmosphere. It really feels like an Irish pub: poorly lit and full of dark woodwork and books. Plus they play the Pogues an awful lot. I don't drink, but I do go there to watch football matches (well, Arsenal matches). A lot of Brit and Irish and Scot expats come in there to watch the games too, and they get rather rowdy. Which is great fun to watch.

5. That's sad
When I was still living at home I got Fox Sports World and could watch the EPL plus the Irish and Scottish games. I miss that. That's a horrible way to go.

12. Fádo
Fádo is owned by some mega-corporation. They have outlets in Washington and Atlanta, among other places.

20. Used to hang out at The Emerald Isle pub near the Chicago & State el stop
back in the late 70's and early 80's. Then it closed down and turned into a yuppie restaurant <sob>

23. The Fada in Fadó
The fada in Fadó is on the O not the A. This chain of bar/restaurants may be directly owned by Guinness, or there may be some other entity between. The Guinness people were involved in opening the first unit, which I think was Atlanta. The other locations are Austin, Chicago, Columbus, Denver, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Seattle, Stamford, and Washington DC.

13. Used to Be Called Crack
Craic used to be called crack, but the spelling was changed for obvious reasons. I am not sure whether a Gaelic word craic ever existed.

I like the young dubliners, too. I saw them a year (or more?) ago when they were opening for Tull. A favorite song: "Scream."
