Poll question: so how cold is it where you are? Had to ask.
Edited on Fri Jan-16-09 10:32 AM by tigereye

it's -7 here, and it hasn't been that cold here for about 12 years, I think

3. There are only three "cold" options in that poll, and each one has a minus sign in it. I voted -30
to -20. And the kids had school today.

12. yes, I suppose it's all relative to what folks are used to
we are at -7 with a high of 7 forecast for today, and all the schools are closed so the kiddies won't turn into blocks of ice at the bus-stop, sidewalk, etc.

Where are you?

6. It will be in the high 20's here in Florida tonight
I think it's shitty that we can't get any snow when it gets that cold. Once we had several inches fall and stay on the ground, Christmas '89 and it shut the whole town down for two days.

Edited on Fri Jan-16-09 10:42 AM by malta blue
At first I thought it was only 8 below, but that is because the interwebs must have taken their reading in a warm spot. The thermometer on the barn clearly reads 15 below zero. :scared:

9. Sorry folks, south Texas is missing out on all the fun
42 degrees right now, but it feels like 35!

Probably won't crack 50 today.

Well, not really sorry. I've lived in a place that had -35 or below wind chill continuously for three weeks, sometimes as low as -75 wind chill, real temp never got above 5 for that period. I do know what it's like.

10. High twenties last night, low fifties today.
I love gloating in January. It almost, but doesn't quite, make up for August.

Gainesville, FL

Rest of Today:

Mostly sunny. Cooler. Highs in the lower 50s. North winds 10 to 15 mph.

Tonight:

Mostly clear. Very cold. Lows in the mid 20s. North winds around 5 mph. Wind chills 18 to 23.

Only here could the mid 20s be considered "very cold".

19. 11 this morning.
I wore layers and layers for my ride into work this morning. But the wind was behind me. Pedalling home, plowing headwinds, will be painful I suspect.

Last night I passed the stage for Sunday's show in front of the Lincoln Memorial. They were testing one of the jumbo telly screens. Some nice heat coming off it.

somehow it doesn't feel quite that bad, though. It was about 5 when I was out today, but the sun made it feel much better.

on edit, it's -2 now at about 10 pm EST.

Seriously it would be nice to meet you one of these times you are in our fair city! :hi:

35. It's so friggin' cold...
the heat went out and when I peed into the frozen toilet bowl it froze before it hit the ice in the bowl and the little balls of frozen pee bounced around like a roulette balls. The cats were amused.

Then I took a dump in the outhouse and froze to the seat-- thank God I had my cellphone so I could call 9-11 and their wiseass comments didn't bother me a bit.

Tried to start a fire in the fireplace, but already used up all my wood, so I'm hitting construction sites for their supplies and am reduced to burning all my National Geographics and Playboys from the 60s and 70s.

Supposed to warm up tomorrow so the gas in my car won't be jello and I can start it and live in it to get some heat.
