Why is Apple stock so tied into Steve Jobs's health?

I know the man is a genius, but every time they announce something about his health, the stock tanks. I just don't get it.

1. I was going to say "because too many investors are clueless morons"...

but then I thought maybe there's some good reason, and I'm the clueless moron on this one.

2. Because he's their front man.
He's like the lead singer. It doesn't matter how talented the rest of the band is. If the lead singer can't perform, nobody wants to buy tickets.

7. Indeed. He's seen as a saviour, but with reason.

He left Apple then returned to pull it out of the mire. And it worked.

8. He built the company, then left and it tanked
he returns and it once more prospers. Investors fear history will repeat itself.

field."

He is the face of Apple- but actually the other Steve, Steve Wozniak, was the hardware guy and apparently quite a bit nicer. Some would argue that Jobs is simply the most charismatic of salesmen, who manages to convince everyone that Apple is gold and everything that they design is magical. Granted, the design of their products are lovely and they really think through many aspects of the user interface, more than pretty much any other company does. I mean the I phone is an incredible device and Macs are great to use.

But some say Jobs is worse than Bill Gates...and pretty much a jerk to work for.

To take the celebrity analogy further, I guess you could say that to some, Jobs is like Einstein, or PT Barnum!

14. There is also a school of investing that looks for a charismatic CEO/COO
P/E ratio, cash solvency, dividends and a charismatic leader.

15. As a safety precaution in this cutthroat corporate world
he's had his iPacemaker tied in to Apple stock, so that if anyone attempts to assassinate him to gain control of Apple, the company will fail.

Brilliant.

17. Because when he is at the helm Apple is really innovative and does well. When
he has quit and gone off to do other things Apple falls apart and sales plummet.
