She was a child at the time the incident may have occurred.

Now, after a Gazette request for Anthea to come forward, the Guisborough mum has explained her story.

She said: "I realise now it probably sounds blasé but I'm not blasé about it. I understand it's a horrific thing."

She wanted to make it clear the family could not be certain they had ever eaten human meat when they lived in Mufulira, Zambia.

8. I lived in an African country for a summer during college

and the tribe there had recently practiced cannibalism. I'm not sure the situations in which they did it, and I don't know the reasons for it. The taboo is so strong for us that its unimaginable. It was hard to imagine these really nice people doing something like that without any qualms about it-because most of us would become nauseated if confronted with food of human origin.
