a question about "the children"

why does everything have to be about them? there ARE adults in this world, why destroy the things they enjoy "just, because it might upset the children" honestly, i dont care about children, what are everyones thoughts about the subject

2. It's a political catch-phrase.

in Korea it tends to be both the children and 'the elders'. Some places I've been, it's 'the mothers'. I believed the US plays that sort of oversimplification game more than most, though.

3. I heard something interesting

From one of my professors. She said that people had it all wrong. The whole purpose of childhood was learning to adapt to the ADULT world, not to have a separate world created for you by your parents.

This doesn't prepare children for what they will face when they leave the nest.

I never "dumbed down" anything with my kids. I always gave it to them straight. They are 20 and 17 now, and they can think for themselves.

10. I have no problem with what adults enjoy as

long as it does not involve non-consenting adults or children. I have a huge problem with the pop ups and emails that are sent to me and my teen children.

I honestly have no idea how to protect my teens from this stuff because I get it too. Everytime I hear or read that I must be a better monitor for my children, I get livid. When my kids were younger I was rather strict about the shows they watched and how much time they watched. An hour a day of children's television. I often sat, well napped, while they watched. So, the commercials. At two or three we discussed anal sex, rape, sexual preference, prostitution, and whatever. All because that was ssen as an appropriate lead to the news broadcast that was on next. It's impossible to regulate

I still support whatever an adult wants to watch but some restrictions on time and place are necessary IMO.

Though I'm with 7th_sephiroth that there's a tad too much over-reaction about "The children! The children!" and overzealous buffoons wanting to ban TV shows and Internet stuff because "My kids might see it!!!!"

If you're worried about your kids, then monitor THEM, don't take legal, moral, ethical fun away from ME. (and I mean "you" in the generic sense, not you specifically)

and if you (the parent) are afraid they'll see nasty stuff on the TV, then it's YOUR responsibility to GET RID OF IT, or actually monitor your child.

If it's that much of a concern, then get rid of the TV.

"Ooh, but there are some shows I like!"

Well, then, welcome to the real world of needing to make decisions about opportunity costs: is it worth your kid seeing maybe a breast on TV so you can swallow down "Survivor" and "Ryan's Hope"? Don't penalize me because you want both sides of the candle lit.
