Does anything bad happen if you consume too much iodine?

And no, I do not mean lugol's iodine. (The chemical used as a disinfectant and to test for starches.) I mean iodine naturally present in food.

I just got this wakame seaweed (which is absolutely delicious pan-fried, by the way), and apparently, a serving contains 775% of your needed daily intake of iodine.

5. Yes, iodine overdose can lead to some awful stuff. But it takes a lot.

In the 3-4 gram range, apparently.

Overdosing on iodine from food would be, I should think, damn close to impossible.
