Favorite "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" tip?
My brother-in-law didn't know to shave after a shower, not before (because the steam softens your beard).

I thought everybody knew that one.

1. Buy glass wine stems....
for partys. They are cheap at about $1/stem, so who cares if they are broken!

2. how about biggest quibble with a tip?
They get into the same advice I've always read, to shave with the grain instead of against it. When I do that, it leaves all the hair on my face/head. I can't get a close shave without going against the grain.

4. How's your acne?
If you can shave against the grain without it irritating your face, great. Most of the rest of us can't. I broke out like a madman when I first started shaving because I didn't understand which way the grain went on my neck.

Besides, I don't think I need to be THAT baby-smooth on my face, anyway. Shaving with the grain is good enough for 9 to 5, and the ladies do like that 5 o'clock shadow at night.

6. no acne
Doesn't break my face out at all. And I like it baby smooth; if I'm going through the hassle of shaving, I want to know it.

5. How about "turn the waistband of your jeans inside out"
Instead of wearing a belt. Yeah, that works. In Hell, maybe.

7. yeah, I could not figure out
how that looks attractive
or
who had that much slack in the fit of the jeans to essentially roll 'em up

second weirdest tip:
hair should not be washed daily---he said it often looks "better" on the second or third day. as you said "In Hell, maybe" or if you like either greasy hair or bed head look.

8. Help on those two
I think the "roll up the waistband" thing has something to do with the current low-rider jeans fad. Yes, they make them for guys, too.

Also - if you have dry and/or fine hair, not washing (just rinsing with water in the shower) every once in a while probably isn't a bad idea.

9. Right on about the hair
Edited on Sun Aug-10-03 02:25 PM by Johnyawl

I have fine, oily hair (which I wear long), and it always looks beter the day after I wash it. But by the third day, if I don't wash it, it looks greasy.

16. Actually-- that one has worked for me
Of course it all depends on what you do to your hair

The natural oils make the hair more manageable -- washing it every day drys it out.

If I have some hair product in-- I just rinse it out in the sink and
voi-frikkin-la I'm ready to go.

Must agree w/ the waistband of your jeans though-- doesn't make a good look in my opinion

20. Two Day Dirty
The "Two Day Dirty" hair thing is sorta trendy, I guess. One tip for oily hair guys (if you like the TDD look) is to put some of your fragrance (preferably a light scent) in your hair. The alcohol in the fragrance will dry up some of that oil, and it'll keep your hair from smelling (which oily hair can do).

I can't believe I'm writing this stuff...

12. The waistband didn't look great on that guy
but the hair tip might have worked, as he hadn't had other than waist-length hair for many years. IMO, I prefer to keep mine really clean. I know that it looks, and certainly smells, better. I think that should be the advice given to the general population.

I start out going with the beard and then go against it very gently.

When blowing out a candle, blow <no pun intended> thru 2 extended fingers and the wax won't spatter.

11. Hrm
Does that apply if you use a Norelco electric? I always shave before so that the remaining scraps of hair come off in the shower. I only thought that applied to manual razors.

13. Eeeek! Norelco = Electric Tweezers...
Or in other words... The-Norelco-Let-Me-Pull-Every-Whisker-From-The-Root. Ouch!

I tried it. I just couldn't get it to work for me.

I'm probably the only guy in the world that's uncoordinated enough to actually draw blood with an electric razor.

17. LOL!
I actually just got a nice Braun that works really well. It's one of those fancy self-cleaning ones that you stick into a formula after you're done.

But before that, you and I were in the same boat, Allen. I drew blood a few times with my old electric razor!

(Maybe it was that big, gaping hole in the mesh...) ;-)

22. I've done that with my Lady Norelco, Allen
drawn blood. I'm a total klutz with any kind of shaving implement - nearly sent myself to the emergency room a few times, because I cut a vein with a safety razor. :eyes: That isn't supposed to even be possible.

I now use a razor that has wire-wrapped blades, and usually manage to keep the nicks to a minimum, but it's starting to get hard to get replacement blades for it.

18. The Gel Tip
"Work your gel in from the back, not the front." I NEVER knew that, and it does look better worked in from the back.

I love this show, btw. Hilarious and good-natured fun!
