Arg. Negotiating a price to purchase a house is driving me bonkers.
We go up a little, they come down a little, we go up a little, they go down a little, and we both refuse to meet at the same price.

They want too much dammit.

But it's a lovely house.

1. Have you checked zillow? and the tax assessment page
for it's assessment information? I have a multiplier for most US towns that will tell you what the market value is versus the assessed value if you want me to look it up for you.

4. I know the taxes on it are 2899/yr in westbrook maine.
No idea what the town's assessed value is or the towns mill rate.

Zillow is neat, but it's not on zillow.

3. I got a better deal on mine by researching how much was owed on my house.
And how much they paid for it when they bought it. Just an idea.

5. Wont work with these people. They're musician restauranteers.
They never even once lowered the listing price for the house during the eight months it's languished on the market. We've dragged them down 20 grand in price, but I want four more dammit.

6. Have your realtor ask whether the listing agent will knock something off his commission
and whether your agent is agreeable to taking less, too. I should think that both realtors
would be anxious to make the deal. You're not that far apart.
